Hello all,

I have a 1541 with no stepper motor drive & after much diagnosis it appears that the Gate Array is at fault.

Would anyone have a working chip or salvaged board they would like to get rid of.

Many Thanks

TC

@ TC

I take it that the one on the spare board I sent you was also goosed..??

:(

I had a check, it is not in my home collection. I have spare drives - but no spare parts. Anyhow I will open a for sale thread. A shame we are so far away - I have a real beaten up drive, working but not looking good.

It is indeed a shame Jurgen ;)

I just want to repair the drive to give it back to the community & I would have been happy to give you the good chassis to reburbish your beaten up drive

Still i'll keep looking & hope something turns up..

Could I find one of these arrays on a C64 breadbin board? I have a scrap one somewhere and if need be, I'll desolder it for you.

Cheer's for the offer Merly but as far as I know it's unique to the 1541 it replaced lots of discrete logic from the Rev 1 Long circuit board, hence why the Rev 2 is only 2/3 the the length..

The atachment in the first post has a breakdown of the logic array.

1541 Drive

1541 Drive

I have a 1541-II drive I don't have a need for. I don't have the cables so can't tell it it is operational. You are welcome to it for postage.

@pankaujn

Thank you for the kind offer, but having checked the schematics the 1541 II uses a different Gate Array to the 1541 I
I would not be able to use the parts to repair my 1541...

Do you have the PSU ?

TC :)

Is it in a socket?

If you are asking if the chip is usually socketed then the answer is no, most of them are soldered, but i'm pretty good at removing them without damage to the board or IC, My 1541 now has a socket fitted awaiting the donor gate array IC ;)

If you have found a spare board I'd be very happy to take it off your hands & remove the IC myself :)

I have that drive for spare. I cannot sell It looks bad. Nobody cares locally. I think sending the mobo is to expensive to UK. Desoldering is to risky, I can do it, but when I get nerves I mess up.

I get nerves when I promise something I cannot keep so;) I do have that hot air station but I doubt a drop off chip would be working, or if you think it survives hot air let me know.. I could spread the heath well enough..

There might be a catch I would ask you, but it will not be money lol

Tell me more, I will help you anyway I can ;)

Sending the mobo to the UK shouldn't be too much my friend as they are not very heavy, let's talk some more

I am still investigating if I need assistance from UK

Do you have an idea about weight. I thought it was heavy there it is the first 1541 no?

I can have a look this evening.

@Jurgen, let me know if you need help chap

Regarding the 1541, all I would need is the Motherboard & Floppy drive assembly, won't need any brackets or chassis or enclosures, hopefully would work out fairly cheap.

TC ;)

I'll find out the shipping is 850 gramm for the drive 350 gramm for the electro board. I'll have a re-weight as well

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I have spare jiffydos as well somewhere for the C64 end

If you wan't them both shipping means 19,20 eu while I can ship it with dhl for less I think 18 EU and add up to 10 kilo stuff. (meaning stripping the drive was not needed)

Only the electronics is 9,20 eu.

Keep in mind eu has a little less value then pounds.

If youd like a combination like a broken C128 or a second 1541's .. for those 18 EU let me know. I also have printers etc..

@Jurgen

As always I am humbled by your kindness and huge efforts to help me out.

I think it would be great to have them both just in case I need mechanical spares too.

The DHL option sounds great let me know so I can send you some payment (Paypal Gift ;))
Your kind offer to send other spare parts to make up the weight sounds very inviting too:lol:

Now what can I do for you, you mentioned earlier in the thread that you may need some International help, don't be shy, If I can help I would be very glad to.

Best Wishes
TC

You have to make up your mind what you wan't I guess it is another 1541 - well I have one as well, I also have printers, C64 broken, C128 broken (dont know)

So let me know what you are interested in. I also find jiffydos as well so you have that 1541 board with jiffydos and jiffydos to put in C64..

--------------

I might be needing some assistance in sourcing a m-atx psu (paid by me of course) and stripped by you to save on shipping. All paid and well exept the stripping it out the case and maybe put a label on it if needed.

It will depend - so wait a little - I'll open up a new thread since I am going first for some other info here as well.

Truth is they sell matx cases here with supply not only psu, and shipping it with metal is to expensive. I know from UK it is cheap to ship compared to local service. I already checked 4 big suppliers in my surroundings they even don't match the word matx, lol and who do sell a complete case wich I do not need. If you are able to source it new or second hand and it is powerfull enough. Enable me a few day's to power my Paypall lol
