This stuff has been with me for far too long and I have no use for it.

Some parts tested, some can be tested on request, some are defect and for parts only.

Update 11.07.2017: added prices for individual items, will sell per items or complete lot

- 286-12, 1MB of DIP memory - tested (see photos) ... 30€ SOLD outside of Amibay
- MFM Seagate ST-4096 hard drive - untested - spins up fine ... 10€ SOLD to SarahWalker
- 8-bit MFM controller - untested ... 5€ SOLD to 20Watt
- 8-bit I/O card - untested ... removed from sale
- 8-bit Hercules card - untested ... sold elsewhere
- XT board with memory - untested ... 10€ SOLD to 20Watt
- 286-10 board with memory - defect - won't power at all (for parts) ... gratis for buyer of any other item

Add shipping cost to total + PayPal fees if not payed as a gift.

I don't have experience with pre-286 era stuff, so I'll test 8-bit stuff only if someone gives detailed instructions.

*** also for sale elsewhere ***

one thing to remember with MFM drives is that they first need to be low-level formatted to the controller they are to be used with, usually either by a utility in the BIOS, or by loading up debug on an MS-DOS disk and typing g=c800:5 (normally, although with some controllers the offset (:5) may be different, any surface defects noted on a sticker on the drive are also normally entered during this process, then partitioned (FDISK) then FORMATted for use. they also require 2 cables, a 34-pin controller cable and a 20-pin data cable, as well as power of course.
(just looking at the photos, both cables are provided here)

here is the info on that drive:

Thanks for the info... but this only confirms my belief that I won't go that route... not interested in MFM and XT stuff :p

I'll test the I/O and Hercules cards.

I'll add another 286-16 board in the lot. It's tested and working with a quirk - after Power ON you have to press Reset to make it POST. Photo will be uploaded later. Price stays the same for the lot.

If it won't sell as a lot, I'll do a split in a week or two... prices per part will be around 10-25€. Defected 286-10 motherboard will be gratis to whoever buys something from the lot.

Tried to test the ST-4096 HDD. Put the MFM controller into S7 motheboard. Disabled all onboard IDE/FDD devices. Put the correct HDD data in BIOS. I get Fixed disk error at POST. That means the controller doesn't work, or HDD doesn't work... or I don't know how to set it up

I'll probably keep the HDD as a display sample.

I/O card shows up the ports COM1, LPT1, LPT2 when booting the computer (tried setting different DIP switches) - all onboard ports are disabled.

Hecrules card will get tested some other day as I need to get the correct monitor out of the storage.

the only things I can think to add in regards to the harddrive is that it should have its 'drive select' option set to drive 1 (J8, 1-2), the cables must be plugged into the correct ports (data cable in the first port), I am struggling to remember off the top of my head if drive 1 (DS0) wants to be before or after the twist with these...its only been about 21-22 years since I touched an MFM/RLL drive setup, but you can just try it both ways... (plug it into middle connection, before twist)

one thing I was forgetting is that like SCSI it should have resistor (termination) packs on the circuit board of the drive (shown as right next to the controller cable connection in the diagram of this drive), which would be left in place on the last (cable connection-wise), or only drive (which you'd have to find if it/they are missing)

I did come across this utility that takes care of the LL formatting procedures for these kinds of drives:

Updated prices per items. Will sell per items or as a complete lot.

Declaring interest in:

8-bit MFM controller
XT board with memory

Can you let me know shipping costs to UK please?

Thanks
David
