I recently had a frustrating experience in trying to update my Amiga 2000 to 3.X ROM. I ordered a couple of 3.X ROMs, but all of them were shipped with 45.061 (from 2014) burned on them. This version has a bug that causes the floppy drives to be unreadable.
icard I even attempted to pull the 3.X ROM from Amiga Forever, but it was the 45.061 version anyway.:double
In defeat, I contacted Amiga Forever for support (not really expecting anything helpful from them as they seem to have a bad rap) and was pleasantly surprised when they emailed me an updated version of the ROM binary (v45.064 updated Sept 2016). After burning this to an MX27C4100 and installing it, my floppy drives work again.
More notes from my experience with this:
3.1 ROM extracted from Amiga Forever emulation worked just fine in an A2000. I have read several times that the AF ROMs are designed to not work on real hardware, but I encountered no such issue. I used 3.1 to get by with, but now I have a working 3.X setup.
I purchased Amiga Forever Plus Edition and also own a licensed 3.1 ROM and three Licensed 3.X ROMs now. Unfortunately, the 3.1 ROM was the only one that had a window for UV erasure; so I ended up using it for my burning experiments. I would recommend buying licensed ROMs so you remain 'legal, have access to support, and can obtain an updated version of Kickstart if yours is out of date or bugged.
