3D printing - design software

As with many hobbies i like to tinker with things and have been thinking about 3d printing
Now i have no intention of buying a 3d printer as there are plenty of companies that offer printing services
But what am looking for is suggestions (personal preferences) for software i can use. Has to be free software anf how easy is it to use. Am only looking to design a box/square object was just interested in peiple opinions

I've used the OpenSCAD application which uses a scripting language for designing 3D objects and is 100% free.
There are a lot of examples you can download and experiment with.
A box/square object can easily been done with a couple of lines of code.
When the item is completed you can generate an STL file which can be used for 3D printing.

Another popular program is FreeCAD, also free with a lot of on-line examples.
I haven't used this one that much, OpenSCAD is the one I currently prefer.

Fusion 360 from Autodesk is a nice software. It's free and supports several formats and works together with 3D printers.

+1 for Fusion 360. It's very intuitive, more-so than some of the other popular packages IMHO. There's also a good user base and support from Autodesk with regular software fixes and/or enhancements, plus a community forum.
