I havent seen 8.1 yet, but Windows Server 2012 R2 (based on 8.1) when pressing Start, I got that crazy screen with squares, not simple Start menu like Windows 7. So I dont like it, it is, too much complicated and disordered.
I unfortunately deal with Microsoft software every day.
from my experiances, if you are using a touch screen then windows 8.1, BUT don't expect your 6 month old MFC to work, I have had a lot of issues with machines running Windows 8 fine then after the 8.1 upgrade devices mainly printer/scanners no longer work and no luck from the manufacturers.
I still use Windows 7 64 as I know its really stable and works with 99% of stuff.
