68060 library for BFG9060?

Back in the day I remmeber messing with different 68040.library files with my Apollo 1240 accelerator.

Now I have a BFG9060 innmy A4000T but all I don't hear of any 68060.library files being required. Is this correct? Does MMUlibs do the same thing?

Having terrible issues with MMUlibs, is it necessary? What does it even do?

Each manufacturer made their own 040/060 library. They were not meant to be interchangeable.

MMUlib (which contains 040/060 libs) was made to work with all of them, and can replace the manufacturer libs if you want.

BFG is meant to be used with MMUlib.

MMUlib does many different things. If you have an unstable system that works better when starting without startup-sequence, try installing MMUlib in expert mode, disable all optional parts, and see if that helps.

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. Made the mistake of installing a BFG without and would only work with MMuLibs. The BFg from what I understand doesn’t have a “Autoconfig” like the classic accelerators, thus relies on the correct libraries.

Also remember that when Installing MMULibs go with Expert Mode and use the “SetPatch” to identify the CPU.

MMULibs also uses configuration files to make an accelerator run correctly and help with “Guru” issues.

There fore also do the following after MMULibs installation:

To get the best performance, you will have to install the (mmu.library) available from https://aminet.net/package/util/libs/MMULib. And add the following line to the MMU-Configuration found in ENVARC:MMU-configuration:

SetCacheMode from 0x08000000 size 0x08000000 Valid CopyBack


If you have no MMU-Configuration file. Then you can get this from here:

Having a total nighrmare with this buggy piece of junk software.

As soon as I do a clean installation of 3.2 and install the latest MMUlibs from.Aminet it crashes when using SCSI.

I have tried doing a minimal install of MMUlibs with all the extra junk turned off and it does the same thing.

Is there no way I can just use an old fashioned simple 68060.library with this board instead?

It is a known fact (Yeah I know), that there are issues with the BFG and SCSI. This is one of the reasons I got rid of mine. Apparently there is a fix? But may mean upping the firmware, which from what I understand, requires some sort of programming board to be soldered onto the BFG.
In the end I bought a Classic Accelerator such as a Cyberstorm MK1. There are other accelerators available that do work with SCSI such as the new TerribleFire 4060 and the ZZ boards. But again you will become a BETA tester when buying these.

Funny you mention that. I've been thinking that maybe there just is no fix. I've read so my stories from A3000 owners having SCSI nightmares. I suppose I haven't heard from many A4000T owners because there aren't very many of us.

Had issues with my A4KD Rev B and Rev C boards with a Z3 FastLane and a Oktapuss Z2 SCSI boards. I know Stephen Leary has tested the Terriblefire 4096 with the Z3 FastLane when coming up with the new TF for A3K and A4K boards. Besides the TF has 256MB of FastRAM on the board

Sorry to hear that. There are many 4000T owners using BFG without issues, including me. Been running it at 100mHz with the onboard SCSI, PicassoIV and a sound card, and it’s been perfectly stable since day one.

So not sure what is causing your issues.
You have tried a short SCSI cable, and disabled parity on the HDD?

I can’t remember - did you ever get the SCSI to work reliably without the BFG?
If not, the 4000D 3.1 ROM that was in your 4000T could suggest there are hardware issues.
Does SCSI HDD still work if you boot without startup-sequence?

And is the CPU a full 68060 or an LC or EC variant?

1) Just bought a really short SCSI cable last week.
No difference.

2) Haven't tried disabling Parity. The fact that it works without MMUlibs made me think that it wouldnt make a difference.

3) It works reliably without MMUlibs being loaded, so I'm ruling out hardware issues.

4) It works perfectly without startup-sequence (i.e without MMUlibs being loaded)

5) It's a full 68060.

This is DEFINITELY MMUlibs related.

It's 350 euros for a TF4060. I've already spent at least £5000 on this system and I am extremely reluctant to spend another penny.

I'm actually tempted to get rid of the whole thing at this stage.

At one point in the other thread you said you got it working with a clean install including MMUlib but not zz9000/p96 setup.

I googled ‘zz9000 unstable’ and got a few hits. One report of instability only when zz9000’s RAM is used (MMUlib installed), and a few ones with BFG and ZZ9000 (So MMUlib as well).

Perhaps try without the ZZ and its software for a while?

Are you getting gurus or freezes without any messages? Did you write down the error codes/messages, if any?

I think I was mistaken then. The last few weeks I've just been working with a literal clean 3.2 install with no other software. As soon as MMUlibs is intalled the system hangs when it loads up.

On further inspection, if there's no CD in the SCSI CDRW drive then the SCSI HD seems to work normally and the computer doesn't hang.

So it's related to the CDRW drive (I've tried many different drives and they all do the same)

So the SCSI hard drive works fine. It's only the SCSI CD drive that causes the system to hang, and only with MMUlibs installed.

Very strange.

Could it be CD Filesystem related? Are there any settings I can tweak?

OS3.2 nags me and only runs in a failsafe mode.

Is there a plain old 68060.library I can use?

In startup-sequence you can out comment the CPU check. Then it will boot normal. Then try the mmulib or the os3.2 mmulib.

An update for anyone who is following this:

SCSI CD drive works fine if I disable CPU caches in the early boot menu.

What could be going on?

Everything works fine when running the BFG9060 at 50MHz.

Obviously this is not ideal, and defeats the purpose of even having the card.

Anybody got any other ideas before I sell it and buy a TF4060?
