Recently send an Indivision to one of our Kiwi members, and it arrived in reasonable time. The only rather small negative (sarcasm), was either AUS or NZ postal systems didn't think this was a worthwhile bit of gear to keep in good order. So this a reminder boys and girls, try to protect your parcels as well as possible. By the look of the Individual box, only a steel insert would have protected this one....

Lucky for both of us, insurance was taken out which will cover most of the financial side of the transaction.....

oh wow that's an appalling level of service

in fact that's not really a functioning postal service?!

Wtf that takes the ****. There is no way that damage could have been an accident, but still an item of that value should have been better packed.

Oceanic Flight 815?

Yeah, we all want to receive our items in monitor sized boxes but unfortunately none of us wants to pay monitor size boxed postage prices, packaging looked fine to me, not sure how much protection was between indivision and outer box though :)

I was on the other end of this, the box was very well packed, but it was crushed, well beyond what I would consider normal failings of the postal services.

now its the fun of dealing with the postal services, who after I took it in for them to assess it, have now re delivered it again to me this morning.... now I got to take it back to them.... to send it off again to be assessed......

Another important point that IS obvious, keep your postage receipt (or proof of postage) until the item arrives at the other end and is checked by the recipient. In our busy lives, its easy to casually discard a small receipt from the post office (luckily in this case I didn't!)

Looks like it's been run over by a fork lift truck or something. I hope it was insured! There's no way they can deny that's damaged.

It's rare but these things can happen, no matter how well you pack it if something this serious happens it will be destroyed, well unless you use a proper flight case! And even these aren't totally indestructable.

Good luck with the claim.

To me it looks like the parcel was damaged during either an automated part of the posting process, or was trapped between a york and side of a truck during transit.

However, regardless of how it was damaged, a postal service has a duty to protect your items whilst in their care and if an item is damaged it should be handled so that the customer knows they noticed this and are alerted to how to claim. The correct way in Royal Mail (although I know this isn't currently carried out by most "older" postmen) is to tape up a damaged parcel, then put it into a strong protective clear plastic bag, cable tied, with a letter explaining that the item was damaged in transit and explaining how to submit a claim for the damages.
