Hi there,

I am building an A1200 tower and I'm having problems with certain games, 2 out of ten games have corrupt graphics, it makes no difference if I use WHD load or boot from floppys made from ADF files.

Workbench works perfectly and most other games work great, apart from a few that don't seem to like steadys V2 PC floppy adapter but I'm not worried about that as disks work great in workbench.

This system has no lock ups but does occasionally crash after displaying corrupt graphics in games, could this be a faulty RAM chip???

I would have thought a faulty ram chip would have given me much more instability as most games work fine. To test this I can play Skidmarks AGA with no problems whatsoever, could this be a timing fault I've been reading about, it is a REV 2B board.

I installed an ami tek hawk today with 4mb and this made no difference to the corrupt graphic problems although WHD load now loads up most games.

I bought another A1200 from a local auction and this works great with no problems

Help :S

Regards
Stu

you need to select NO CACHE from the tools type menu for WHDLoad, if you are running from floppy you will likely need to turn off the CACHE in early startup menu.

Its common that some games throw this wobbly on an 020 or higher CPU.

thanks mate, a few more games are running but some games still have the same problem and i remember playing them years ago on my a1200 so know they work, rick dangerous 1&2 and space crusade still have gfx corruption, also when I enable 8mb on the hawk and put an 8mb simm in the system just crashes and hangs grrr.

It may be that your power supply is either not upto it or on the way out, have you tried another?

its a 700w ATX lol

Maybe it is too powerful for our old Amiga's - try a 250w AT/ATX some new & powerful ATX need a decent draw on the 3.3v or don't push out the power needed ;)

I have just tried a 300w ATX with no change :o

This makes me confuseded.com

Some games will need a down-grade in ROM's to RUN / Load as well as the NO CACH option in the early startup being enabled.

I would suggest looking towards relokick and other types of KickROM loaders when running from Disk.

When running from WHDLoad you will need the appropriate KICKSTART ROM files installed in the DEVS:Kickstarts/ directory as well as the RTB files in the relokick directory.

The problems you are experiencing are software and CPU cache related not hardware (otherwise it would do it every time)

So have a read about the site - there are some examples of how to get and install the kickrom library -

Please note that since the Amiga KickROM's are under an active copyright you need to ensure that you own them for legal reasons - and sadly you cannot ask for digital downloads on the open forum of this site.
