Is it realistic to build these up without a donor board? If someone could post some info about the parts required that would be really helpful. Thanks

GALs - Parts available on the generic market. Code for them is published. Programming requires a device to do so, though there are sellers here on AmiBay willing to offer both.
74-series SMD - Parts available on the generic market.
Delay Chip - a compatible replacement to the original was found, available on the market at parts houses.
680x0 socket - available on the generic market.
Voltage regulator - available on the market at parts houses.
SMD caps and resistors - available on the generic market.
200-pin connector - see this thread - www.amibay.com/showthread.php?84073-200-pin-CPU-connectors-for-A3000-4000-systems-and-CPU-cards

I would check a few parts houses to get a bulk shipment of most of what you need from no more than 2 as long as both part and shipping cost is reasonable. You will want to be comfortable soldering SMD. This is not a job for a Saturday afternoon electrician used to soldering together 18-22ga wire. You want proper tips & iron temps, tweasers, mangnifying glass, and preferably a 'station' where you might do this kind of rework comfortably - as in you will be sitting there for some time and want your tools, solder, flux, and parts organized and at hand.

To remind what I saw Chucky write further up in the thread - he will have more boards in the future - but this is not the place for getting in line for them - he doesn't have them in hand yet.

Thanks for the detailed response. I have been recapping boards for a few years and have a pretty decent setup at my workbench.

I will do some research on the parts and see if my programmer is compatible with the gals.

Maybe a US group buy on parts will make sense.
