Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Hi TC, the 512mb AmigaSYS is set up as SFS and maxtransfer is 0x1fe00
Also with the 4gb, i have tried all different partitions, i have tried a single 3.8gb partition, two 2gb partitions, a 1gb and 3gb paritions, a 512mb and 3.5gb and i just get errors everytime the same not validated or checksum error everytime.
The most annoying thing is when i delete the partitions and recreate new ones it tells me it will destroy all data in dh0: and dh1: It then reboots and all partitions are back to where they were before the reboot like its not been touched!

This is very annoying lol

**UPDATE**

I have now found that the AmigaSYS works perfectly fine until i try and use the cdrom.
As soon as i mount the cdrom the machine locks up and i have to switch the power off and back on.
I have tried swapping the cdrom with a different one but still locks the machine up when accessed.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Do you know if the keyboard itself isn't working properly, because I would have sent you my other one if I didn't already know that was broken. *sighs*

Have you tried only having the flash adapter on the IDE channel?

I have heard some cards don't like having a slave device.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Also, I had both that CF card I sent you and DVD-Drive working with an AmigaOS 3.9 install.

That may be worth a try.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Hey Phil, the keyboard now seems fine again. It's only been playing up this morning but has been fine all afternoon. The only problem i have with the keyboard now is the caps lock doesn't work. It flashes on startup like normal but once the machine has booted it does not function at all. I'm really fine with the keyboard though as i have a converter to use an AT A2000 keyboard if it will work.
I have tried with the flash card on the ide channel on its own and i had better success, the machine ran fine for a while and then i decided to install IDEFix to get the cdrom added and it froze the machine up.
I have now swapped the Liteon DVD for an old Cdrom and AmigaSYS is working ok with the new drive where the Liteon would freeze the machine.
I'm now trying my classicwb setup again with the new cdrom.

**UPDATE 2**

I have now discovered that no setup works when trying to use the cdrom drive.
The Amigasys works fine but when i mount the cdrom it reads the disc and the machine locks up and i have to power the machine off.
The ClassicWB setup also boots and works fine until i try and install IDEFix and mount the cdrom, as soon as it tries to mount the cdrom the machine locks up and on reboot it tells me that workbench has a checksum error.
It seems i am not able to use a cdrom on this system as it is.
The puzzling thing though is that philip says he has used this CF Card & DVDrom together successfully.
The setup by the way is using the onboard IDE with the CF adaptor as Master and the DVDrom as Slave.

Yep, only with Amiga OS 3.9 though, which I installed directly on the A4000.

The ClassicWB I used didn't have the DVD mounted, and I don't think I ever tried it. I mainly just transferred everything directly to the card on WinUAE then swapped it back and forth from the Amiga and PC. Which is the great thing about the backpanel mod.

I say try OS 3.9 though, using the flash card I gave you. You can make a backup of AmigaSYS before if you wish. :)

Someone else may have a technical explanation about why flash cards don't work with mounting CDs on 3.0/3.1 based systems, hopefully.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Hey Philip, i am familiar with using CDroms on 3.1 systems as i use one with my A1200 tower. Its just this A4000D that i'm having trouble with. I don't know about using the cdrom on the a4000 but i'm positive i will get it working.
Thanks for your help though. The keyboard seems fine now except the caps lock not working. Every other key seems to work fine and i can get caps using the shift so its no great deal.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

I'm happy to announce that my problems are solved.
I now have my ClassicWB setup working with Liteon DVD drive. All fully functional and no checksum or vaildated errors.
The problem was down to the CF adaptor. It didn't like slave devices. As soon as i swapped the CF for an actual 3.2gb HDD everything kicked in perfectly.
I now have my 4000/030 running ClassicWB Full with DVD!

Thanks to all for all the help and suggestions.

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Excellent news MIke

I wanted to post earlier to try a real HD but didn't have the time, wifey had work for me to do

It's quite common for most CF Adapters to want the whole IDE channel to themselves.

I just need to sort your A3640 out now & you will be motorollin

Well done mate, perseverence pays in the end

TC

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

Thanks TC, i will get the A3640 packed up and sent off on Monday morning.
I am quite pleased that i managed to get it sorted myself.
It was really starting to annoy me lol.

Thanks again

Mike

Re: A4000D & A3640 CPU

That is a common issue with most laptop orientated devices. They hard code the Master/Slave setting into the hardware and then don't allow anything else on the chain. The same can happen with slimline laptop CD drives, and you need a JAE adapter than can select the master/slave setting for the drive.

It is however annoying that you couldn't get the CF adapter to work with the A4000. I was considering doing the same thing with mine. Maybe other adapters are different and will allow it.
