A590 only working with 500Plus

Tried 2 A500's and an A500 plus with KS1.3 and it wont work.

Only guru

A500 Plus KS2.04 and it works perfectly.

Whats up ?

That should be the first action! Take a rubber gum or better Isopropanol to clean the external connector of your A500s...

If "not working" means white screen hang or software failure when it starts booting: installed partition(s) may use 2.0+ only filesystem (PFS3?)

It has Workbench 1.3 installed as an OS which I installed using the original A590 floppy disk and original WB 1.3 disks. I installed it using Kickstart 2.04.

On A500 or Kickstart 1.3 it just goes to Guru

Have you used the FFS of kickstart 2.04? So it could not boot using KS 1.3. You have to include the filesystem in the RDB...

I dont think so. All i did was booted with A570 disk and then installed the workbench with all default settings.

On KS1.3 it wont even boot from floppy disk. It starts loading and then stops. This is tested on 2 KS1.3 A500s and a KS1.3/2.04 plus.

When set to KS2.04 it works perfectly.

I think, you have the wrong filesystem in the RDB! I had the same problem years ago.
Try the following...
Boot your A500+ with KS2.04 and A590
install the hard disk using oldfilesystem
Install WB 1.3
Boot and watch what happens...

Ok I will try it. What exactly do I have to do to install the oldfilesystem ?

I suggest to boot from WB 1.3 diskette, and use
http://www.l8r.net/install/hard_drive_cont/A590Setup.dms

coz if you boot from wb2+ there will be FFS in memory already


also check switches on the backside

I have no idea what the dip switches at the back are for

DIP switch settings
switch 1 - autoboot ROM: ON - enable
switch 2 - LUN: ON - enable
switch 3 - time-out: ON - enable long wait period for drive
switch 4 - reserved

Dont think they have anything to do with this problem

install the hard disk using oldfilesystem
Install WB 1.3
Boot and watch what happens...

There is no options to do this. I tried a format after booting up with WB2.04 floppy disk and it said Quick or Full, i chose full thinking it would give me some option but instead it just started formatting the DH0 partition.

If possible i dont want to destroy the DH1 partition as i have loads of games etc on it

Ok managed to change it from fastfilesystem to oldfilesystem. Lets install and see

OK I did:

Format WB Partition after booting in KS2.04 using WB2.04 disk
Load A590 Disk and in HDToolbox change DH0/WB Partition to OLDFILESYSTEM
Reboot with A590 Setup disk & installed WB1.3
Rebooted and it worked fine (KS2.04)
Rebooted in KS1.3 mode and it starts loading then it says "Not a DOS disk in unit 0"

If I click retry and cancel a few times it says "Software error - task held Finish ALL disk activity Select CANCEL to reset/debug" and straight to GURU Medititation

So put the A590 on a KS 1.3 A500 and make the same process again...
Start with WB 1.3
start the installer from the a590 disk
Change the filesystem again to ofs
Format the partition
Install WB 1.3
And then let's have a look...
