Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Oh, please! I would LOVE one! Preferably complete and built...

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@ Tahoe

Welcome to AmiBay m8y! :D

@ Zetr0

Depending on final unit cost, I can definately support you for one, possibly 2 if Spunky get's his finger out & finds the "Carrier Bagged" one! :roll:

L8r bud! :D

PS - Can any of 8Mb Ram be allocated to Chip Ram without using a 1Mb Trapdoor Expansion for increasing to 2Mb Chip?

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@Kinnie

I am afraid not my friend, the CHIP ram is has its own channel shared by the custom chips and CPU so its a no go...

however I can send you a couple of chippies that you can piggy back on the existing chipram giving you 2mb chip :)

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Kewl......& would the Trapdoor 1Mb expansion then configure as Fast ram?

Sorry for all the N00b questions. I am not so au fait with the lesser Amiga Models. I've always been a "Big Box" man myself! :mrgreen:

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@Kinnie

alas no my friend, the Trap door expansion can ONLY be used as CHIP ram as thats the only signal lines it has. remember that CHIP ram is shared by all the chips in the set (gfx / sound / cpu etc) where as FAST ram is exsclusive to the CPU as is not shared with the other chips.

By using the Piggyback method (thats putting a an extra chip on each of the 2 chip rams and routing LCAS and UCAS to the expansion port) it essentiall FILLS the expansion port, you cannot put any more on as it would exist in the same memory map space as that wich is piggy backed.

although the Expansion port does have RTC CLK In and Left / Righ Audio out of all things :)

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Left/Right Audio Out? What a strange thing to include. Any ideas what it could be utilised for? After all, the phono audio out on the back is the same thing.

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Well you can solder on a microamp with a minijack and have your self a headset amplifier built inside the amiga :mrgreen:

I think Adonay hit it on the head... one could build a small amp and have a head phon jack on an A600, that would be cool :D

btw...

@Harrison

loving the retr0-colour Mando side :D

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Indeed :mrgreen: one could as well have a volume nob on the side somewere ..

@Harrison
Nice avatar

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Thanks guys. I wanted to update it as I've been using the plain red original one for some time now, and had a bit or retro inspiration today. :)

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@All

From my calculations I should be able to get these made up for £20 a unit, possibly cheaper.

I am waiting on Stas to get back to me in reguards to licensing the latest board revision and CPLD code for a batch run of 60 units. pending on what happens it may increase the price a little.

Mid next week I think it should be a cut off point for the group by, the interest in this has been nothing but amazing!

Should that Stas / LDV not be in a position to offer the latest unit I will look into manufacturing the older version.

with some discussion on eab it may well be possible to have 8MB fast ram with the use of select card types with the PCMCIA such as Network and CF and other Card readers, but I will keep you all aprised on this.

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Can you wait until the end of this week in other to other Banana-zilians join us?

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

I can make it till the end of Next week my good friend :)

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@Zetro

Even though I'm selling the A600 I have, I would like to pick up another one in the future so I'm still interested in the RAM upgrade. Please keep me down for one.

Thanks!

Heather

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@ Zetr0, can you put my name down for one too? I think it`s time my A600HD got a pressie.

cheers,

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

Update. If you can get the PCMCIA working with 8MB and the cost of the final units is going to be about £20 then can you put me down for 2 please, instead of the original 1.

This will be so I can utilise the second one for my future A600 laptop project. :)

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

So far, so good: count 4 more boards going to Banana-land. :mrgreen:

Mate, there is no way to use 8Mb of Fast RAM and the PCMCIA at the same time. Not with a 68000 or EC020.

In case of this board, you can autoconfig 4Mb at startup (making the memory on the PCMCIA space idle).

I wonder if we can modify the original code to map the second 4Mb "bank" into the slow RAM address instead of PCMCIA area. This will give the board 5.5Mb of Fast RAM, more than sufficient to run 68000 software.

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

@rkauer

indeed you are right.... BUT it maybe possible to use cards/devices that DONT map to the non-IO memory Area

have a read here http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=42331 (which you posted in LOL)

looks like a good poke and patched card.device and we could have a winner my friend.

of course this is still in the experimental stages.

Re: A600 8mb Fast Ram: Group Buy

The 2008 MK2 version of the board can already by mapped to give 5.5MB of fast ram with PCMICA support still enabled.

However Zetr0 thinks it is possible to update the design to make it allow 8MB along with PCMCIA support.

Quote from Zetr0:

"with some discussion on eab it may well be possible to have 8MB fast ram with the use of select card types with the PCMCIA such as Network and CF and other Card readers, but I will keep you all apprised on this. "

If you haven't seen the MK 2 board then you can read all about it here.

And here is a piccy:
