Hi!

I have an A600 here, the Mouse Button (left Click) is not working, I've tried a couple of known working mice and confirmed the board is the issue.

One of the mice did work for a little while when I pugged it in, but stopped working quicky.

All the pins are in place, but I thought it might be a dry solder joint on the mouse port, I've reflowed that and it's still the same :(

What would be the next thing to check?

Cheers,
Steve.

One of the CIA's, dry solder joint maybe?

It's the 8520 CIA that controls mouse functions...take a look at that Steve.

Swap the CIA chips over to see if that resolves the issue.

I may have a set of A600 CIAs at home if you need them. ;)

Hmm, the CIA's are surface mounted on the A600, not such an easy job to swap :(

I'll have to practice a bit on some dead PC boards before I attempt a job like that.

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot

I used the Hot Air and lots of flux to reflow the solder on the CIA chip by the FDD

I was cacking my pants as the chip got pretty hot :o

And just tested it, you won't believe it.

It only bloody works :ninja:

That was exactly the right thing to do my friend, if you have issues with an ACA or A608 you do the exact same thing to the 68k.

TC

Result!

Fault correctly diagnosed and repaired; nice one, Steve!

Awesome and neat solution my friend...
I seriously need to get one Hot Air Station myself!

Thanks again all! Hot Air is indeed very cool stuff :D

When it comes to smd resistors nintendo ds's switches, or any dumb thing i cant solder in place then Hot air works great.!!
i like to use kapton tape as a sort of insulator although its really just there to stop things getting blown around.

i also have lots of solder paste (flux with solder particles in it) and il dab that on to items then put them where they need to be and the hot air burns away the flux and leaves me a nice blob of solder just where i wanted it.

"this stuff"

You actualy get quite a lot of solder out of the little puddle of mush you apply. So it takes a bit of trial and error to know how much you need.

grats on the repair!

Nice shambles, how do you apply that?

"Hot Air Is Cool Stuff" - I could add that to "Go With The Re-flow"

Can I use that for a T-shirt design?

;)

Bad news guys, after cleaning the board and letting it dry I rebuilt the machine and it's stopped working again :(

At least you can use it with A+Alt lol for left click

Sounds like my A600, only that it was the right mouse button not working and resoldering the Paula caused the A600 go gaga. :(

Waiting for an SMD rework station to replace the Paula with a new one...

Nice shambles, how do you apply that?

depends what im using it for at the time really.
I use the stuff for reballing... So in that instance i apply the stencil to the chip then get a pva glue spredder thingy (5 for £1 in the works) and spread it aall over the thing and then scrape off the excess..

For smaller things like the ends of tiny little smd resisters i use the rounded end of a pin.

Its like a really thick paste. its prety handy..
if i was a plumber id probably paint it on to the pipes i was sealing together with a paint brush. But i dont think id use it much as its more for electrical use.

50g tub is tiny lol..
when i 1st bought one i said ah man look how small it is. then i orderd 2 more..
But turns out one 50g tub lasts forever lol..
Oh and it has to be stored at 5c or lower. or it could possibly seperate so if you want to buy some try not to get it from china or any where the postage is going to take more then 24 hours.

Isn't the solder paste also available in syringes?
