Need some help. Picked up a ACA620 locally here in Australia. It had a broken socket on it.
I ordered some 68 pin sockets from China and proceeded to remove the existing one.
The replacements arrived, installed but they do not clip on to the 68000. Very loose and not a nice "click" on.

Looking at some pictures online and I can sort of see that the sockets are low profile.
Is there special sockets I need to order and if so where can I get one from?

Thanks

It is not easy to find sockets that will clip on and stay secure as good as the original one did. However, before dismissing the socket you have now, you should mill down the small standoffs inside the sockets and also sand down the entire socket until you reach the top of the metal pins to make sure the sockets goes down as far as possible. It will help a lot towards making a good connection. Also remember to remove the part of the socket that touches the resistor next to the CPU.

Thanks for that. I did try that but did not have any luck.
I remember that I had a Kipper2k memory expansion module and checked the model of that one. It is a 3M version.

Just want to find one that is local. From the look of the 3M one the pins curl around at the base. There must be something I can get my hands on

I got Kipper2k's A600 mem expansion and I had issues with first version as the socket would not stay on the CPU. He found another socket that he thought worked better, so he shipped me that one so I could replace the socket. It worked better but is still not as secure as the ACA620 socket which is very stable. I know that Jens (from IComp) spent some time finding the right socket after spending a lot of time supporting people who bought the Indivision AGA MkI which had the same issues. I could check later which socket Kipper2k sent me.

The Vampire team have also found a good solution for the socket as my V600 is also quite secure, so perhaps they have some pointers somewhere. They are not as silent about where they find their parts as Jens is. :)

Thanks for that. I am messaged the Vampire team on their website so hopefully they get back to me.
