Advertising is turning the web into a sestpool, I use adblocker all the time to actually see the content of the site. It's not piracy, its maximizing my bandwidth.
How many times has a site "stalled" waiting for a baner ad to load up.
This is just plain and utter crap.

Judging by his argument. if I go and puchase something even as simple as a second-hand Amiga accelerator card without watching an advert for it then I've just pirated it?

A pirates life for me it seems.

I used adblock back in the day where ads had an impact on my machine / connection. but now i can't care less. bring on the ads. heck, I work for an advertising agency, i can't be a hypocrite.

I also work for an advertising agency, and I use adblock. Turn it off for sites that I regularly visit, though. Just really want to block the **** out of facebook and google ads, it's not like they're hurting if I don't see their ads.

We're among other things using google and facebook ads. ;) facebook ads have been very (and surprisingly) successful. several customers have dropped ads in newspapers in favor for that.

This has gotta be a wind up.

It reminds me of the film and music industries whinging about their antiquated business model not working properly in the digital world but instead of embracing and adapting, they cry foul.

I think its a bit like those superbugs that develop immunity to antibiotics... people have been exposed to so much advertising that we're growing immune to it.

Advertising is obnoxious. Even off the internet its been getting worse over the years, ads on TV are getting louder compared to the shows you're watching and the ad breaks are longer, there's more billboards and posters on the sides of the roads now (you should be watching the road FFS not trying to read all that crap), go to any sporting event and there are brand names plastered everywhere and the teams are even referred to as by their sponsor's brand name... There's a reason DVR's with the ability to skip ads were invented!

It clearly doesn't work on the internet so instead of crying about it, adapt your business model.

:double if you really run a site that needs it ads to generate money, you're doing it wrong!

Basicly a site doesn't need ads to run it and there are enough ways to do it.

1- Donation system (let your visitors donate, anything goes, but the bigger, the more access they have)
2- Paid content (To view things or to make use of it, you have to pay or monthly pay as per membership)
3- Sponsor that is visable in the video or text and is also taking part for hosting the site

And I don't use adblockers, I just block the entire domains, same effect but without the use of software, therefor no piracy as I'm not using any software.

And just out of the viewers way, how annoying is it for me to see the same ads everytime I watch something on Youtube or Facebook!
Or a popup while your in the middle of reading something, thats  and makes me go :censored:and just clicking x and if that doesn't help ctrl-alt-del and taskmanger and end task.

That's just lazy advertising. The really good stuff is social media campaigns, and viral stuff. And you know it's true.

Ever since Weebl's Stuff went mental with flash adverts back about 5 or more years ago I used No Script. Never looked back.

Just want to point out that we don't advertise, or have adverts. We're still here.

That's my personal investment. One day Heinz will thank me with a nice fat cheque. ;)

^ yeah I am also waiting a huge check from FROM SOFTWARE sometime soon :lol:

No problem for me i'm pro piracy to a certain extent anyway especially in the case of companies such as Apple and Microsoft. If a company were to charge a fair price for a product then maybe i wouldnt be.

But ad blocking for me is perfectly fine, piracy is stealing something, with an ad blocker im refusing to accept something it's the complete opposite. If anything they should be paying me for saving them bandwidth and other resources.
