I picked one of these up from EBay months ago. It is a 44 pin IDE version, meant for the 2.5inch laptop drives.

The first problem is that the pins are actually 2.54mm pitch, which means that the connector is actually 4 pins larger than a 40 pin IDE connector.

Not a problem, I ordered a few 44 pin IDC connectors with 2.54mm pitch and cannibalised a 40 pin IDE cable.

I thought I could report some success but unfortunately my only A500 is beginning to flake on me.

Isn't old hardware wonderful?

Pics attached.

#1 shows the board ICD AdIDE itself.
#2 shows the 68010, with Kickstart 3.1 installed.
#3 shows the cable plugged into the AdIDE. You can also see a DCE Mini Megi 2MB Chip RAM expansion. I think this is the PAL version, turning my NTSC A500 into something that God intended.
#4 You can see the Indivision in the top right corner there.
#5 40 of the 44-pins are connected
#6 Final pic shows the 44-pin IDC and the 40-pin IDE connector together.

how long is the cable?

sorry its the only thing i can think of at the moment.:)

AHA... It works, and quite well actually :)

I'll post a screenshot of SysInfo after I get it onto the machine.

well done,what was wrong?:)

I don't know what was causing the flakiness exactly. Last time the A500 locked up with or without the SupraRAM 500rx. And now it works fine with the 500rx connected. Which is just as well as the 512kb trapdoor expansion is no longer working so only 1.5MB chip would be available without the SupraRAM (8MB, hooray). I think I may have shorted out pin 1 of the trapdoor expansion as there was a flash of light and smoke some weeks ago :( The plastic around the pin 1 header is a little melted.

Hey, at least the AdIDE and my homebrew cable work just fine.

Here is the SysInfo reported speed: 932,896 bytes/sec
This is from a CF card with CF adapter.

Almost 1Mb/s is very good for a 68000 CPU. Check the continuity of the pin #1 of the trapdoor to see if there is an problem.
