Hey guys

My daughters machine was built just to surf the internet. She now wants to play sims 3, the CPU is fine as it is a P4 @ 3.0 ghz, but it only has onboard graphics. So I need a cheap and cheerful GPU that will allow her to play Sims 3 to keep her quiet for a few days.

Any offers on a decent AGP card for Sims 3 would be awesome.

The website shows these, so I guess any of these will do:

NVIDIA GeForce series
  • FX 5900, FX 5950
    6200, 6500, 6600, 6800
    7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
    8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
    9300, 9400, 9500, 9600, 9800
    G100, GT 120, GT 130, GTS 150
    GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 280, GTX 285, GTX 295
ATI Radeon™ series
  • 9500, 9600, 9800
    X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
    X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
    2400, 2600, 2900
    3450, 3650, 3850, 3870
    4850, 4870

Many thanks

Sims 3 will play with onboard mate, I've run it before on my old Media Box which has built in GF6200

Hey man

The onboard on her machine is really really old. I think its only like 64meg and I believe that has to be shared. I figure at least an AGP witrh 256 meg is needed.

For this old board onboard grapics is not really an option :(

Cheers though m8

I would say check your onboard graphics (your motherboard manual should tell you what they are, or failing that you can look up the spec online) because on a lot of relatively modern boards the onboard should handle it- but if you do need an AGP graphics card I can almost certainly find an appropriate one for you, for a small charitable donation plus shipping cost.

[EDIT]Do you need a low-profile card, or a high-profile one OK? Also, what limits are there on pace inside the machine? This may be pertinent.[/EDIT]

Hi

Yeah onboard is not an option for this mobo, its really old and not modern at all. I actually had it as my old PC before upgrading and I did play around with it a few times hehe. It was really bad.

If you do have something to offer that would be awesome.

Hey m8

No limits at all, its in a full size case :)

Cheers

I#m pretty sure we've got something that fits, the only question is what you'd prefer and what kind of price range you're aiming for: I'm working on cataloguing all of our decent AGP cards, I'll give you a full list when I'm done and you can let me know what you're interested in.

Tracking website says the card has been delivered. Has it arrived safely? Remember when you plug it in, the card has its own power supply- you should be able to plug in one of the standard IDE drive power connections from a standard ATX power supply in to it.
