As arnljot said, for business use Dell are very good. They make some good workstations and servers that are robust, well configured, backed up by good business support and are worth buying.
But for home users their home PCs and laptops all use proprietary design so the cases only fit the Dell motherboards, and the motherboards only fit Dell cases. Plus the ram sockets are different to standard ones (back to front if I remember right) so you have to buy Dell branded ram, and the same for replacement PSUs. Not good if you ever need to upgrade you current system as you won't find a none Dell motherboard to fit, or be able to even upgrade the ram in your current Dell unless you buy it from them directly. Not good.
