the fx-57 is quite hard to find i had to order the one i have off some store from hong kong to get it they had a whole bunch of them back then but even there out of stock now.
there is actual a socket 939 Opteron that is 200mhz faster then the fx-57 i believe its the fastest single core cpu ever made. but I've never found one for sale anywhere.
also if u look up opteron 154 it is the opteron equivalent to the fx-57 there is currently one for sale on a certant other auction site for $50 plus $10 shipping usd.
its basically the same chip but back in the day would have been more targeted towards people building severs or workstations.
its basically like on the intel side comparing a Pentium to a xeon. alot of the chips are the exact same just that back in the day xeons and Opteron would have costed way more then there consumer counter parts but now a days that no one would be building a sever or workstation with one of these chips there cheaper then then consumer versions since most people looking to build a gaming system are out there looking for consumer chips and not workstation/sever chips.
the chip has the same clock speed and cache. some motherboards maybe be more picky about if they will have the chip in the microcode but id figure any of the bigger companies like asus gigabyte msi should work no problem.
I know this is an old thread, but it came up while doing a search for Opteron 156 on google. There is actually one for sale on ebay, posting looks really recent. I don't think I have ever seen another for sale anywhere.
