Hello All,

I want to share this experience I have just had with amedia-computer.com, in case anyone else discovers what seems to be the working IDE to SD adaptor on their site.

So this is regarding the IDE to SD adaptor, on their website there have the product listed with an image of the 2 chip version, this is the version that does not have the HDD LED always on issue.
But they have shipped the 1 chip version that does have the issue, to make it even worse for me, I already own 2x1 chip versions and spent almost 5 times as much on 2x2chip version with amedia-computer.com.

In summary

For the 2x1 chip version I spent £xxx including shipping
For the 2x2 chip version I spent £xxx including shipping and received the 1 chip version

This is my initial email to them:

Hello Amedia Computer,

You have shipped the wrong product, I ordered the 2 chip version of the IDE to SD adaptor, as shown on your product page. You have shipped the 1 chip version that doesn't work correctly with the Amiga.

I already own 2x1 chip version that I was able to purchase at a cost of £xxx total to myself.
I placed the order with yourselves, spending near 5 times as much, specifically for the 2 chip version that does not have the HDD LED always on issue.

This is the image from your product page:

This is what you have sent:

Please let me know what can be done about this.

An update to the post.
I want to keep the community informed as when something does go wrong, let's see how it works out when dealing with a small retailer in the Amiga community

I received this last week on Apr 12th.

Hi David,

Sorry for the late answer, we were very busy yesterday !

We'll try to find the exact product you're searching for.

Please also note that we're surprised that one of the two adapter is not
working since we test it on our A1200 before shipping !

Do you use new capacitors on your Classic Amiga or are there the original
ones ?

Please note that if you still use original capacitors, you can get some
strange behaviour on your Classic Amiga, take care of that too.

We'll keep you informed as soon as we can find the product you're searching
for.

N.B. : all pictures are not all contractual (especially for SD and CF
adapters since it depends on the products we can receive) but we test it
before shippings !

Thanks, Laurent and Franck

Hi Laurent,

Thank you for responding to my email.

All capacitors have been replaced on my classic A1200.

The issue with the 1 chip IDE to SD is that the HDD LED is always on.
I already own the two 1 chip IDE to SD adaptors.

I am specifically looking for the 2 chip version, as pictured on your website.

The 2 chip version works correctly with the HDD LED, therefore making it more valuable to Amiga owners.

Kind Regards

Hi Laurent,

Here is an example of the same product on Amazon with the 2 chip version pictured.

Please see the 1 star rating and the comment regarding the Amiga A1200

Thank You

David

I didn't get a reply, although I do appreciate the long Easter weekend.
Concerned that the initial response might just be a delaying tactic to get pass the 14 day cooling off period, where an EU customer has the guaranteed right to return a purchase for any reason and without justification, today I have sent the following...

Hi Laurent,

I have decided to cancel the purchase, please provide the appropriate form so this can be completed.

Let's see what happens next with Amedia Computer.
Anyone care to guess, good trader all round or good trader pre-sales only

I hate how companies put a picture that is not representative of the actual product being sold. They should either put an accurate picture or no picture at all. I hope you get it worked out.

I removed the prices from your first post as price commenting of any kind on AmiBay is prohibited. However, I left the part about you paying five times as much as it doesn't mention specific prices and gets your point across. :)

Good luck!

Heather

Thanks Heather.

Amedia Computer were quick to accept a return, although no word on who is responsible for the return shipping cost.
It is being shipped tomorrow, will update this post next week with the outcome.

A quick update.

Amedia Computer received the return on Wednesday 26th April at 12:25, but no sign of a refund.
Now I am forced to open a paypal dispute with them over this.

Not happy.

and I gained a quick response from the dispute, if only they were as quick to refund...

This is the type of customer service I like to avoid.

A final update for anyone interested.

On May 1st Amedia Computer stated they had refunded my account, but no refund was present.
I waited a few hours before replying, asking if paypal needed to be involved.

By lunchtime May 2nd, no response from Amedia Computer and still no refund, I escalated the case with paypal.
Today Lunchtime May 5th, the refund has finally been paid.

As for the return shipping, paypal themselves covered the cost and refunded that days ago.

In summary, I received a refund for the misleading product but it was not a good customer experience.

Glad you got it resolved. Unfortunately, good customer service is becoming a thing of the past. It also seems that damage of items during shipping is becoming more common as the companies might throw a sheet of paper in a box and call it good instead of actually packing things properly. I've returned nearly 15 items to Amazon since the beginning of the year because of damage during shipping. At least their customer service is good enough to replace the items quickly without too much hassle. It's still a waste of my time though.

I hope you find the device you are looking for.

As it happens and thanks to another amibay user, I have found an adaptor that enables the 1 chip IDE to SD to work correctly.

Some images.

In the top image, a url of the product can be seen. Alternatively google "Angle IDE 44 PIN Adapter for IDE SD Adapters for Amiga 600 1200 LED Working" should find it.
It's possible this information may help others, after all using SD over CF means the SD's are cheaper and it gives near 20% performance increase on the native IDE interface.
