Anyone remember Rocco2007? aka Gareth Quilt?

Well today I got a cheque from the courts refunding me the money he stole for a fictitious Atari Jaguar sale. Thanks Amibay and especially Merlin for your efforts in bringing this case to the authorities!

I hope the other guys he ripped off got their money back too?

This was a welcome surprise and will be heading right into my hobby account! :)

It's always nice to know that, at least for you and apart all the trouble this caused, this ended well.

Very good to know there's a bit of justice happening in online trading.

Gareth Quilt, is that his real name?
Should rename to Gareth Guilt.
Put his personal details up too, I hate scumming bxxxxxxs with a vengeance.

Good to hear you got your money back and that Amibay is not a easy target.

I hate scumming bxxxxxxs too, but putting personal details up here? What would that help?
20 keyboard heroes going after him? Leave the justice part up to the authorities mate, no need for a witch hunt or personal vendetta...
The dude has been banned, and the authorities dealt with it. Done.

How many members did this guy rip off anyway?

I'm not out for a witch hunt, but I think it's good that everyone knows with whom they're dealing with.
You should know as well, that the majority of these scambags usually don't stop their evil ways after being convicted.

I've had a cheque as well, although it was only for a few £'s....its going to take him a while to pay me back, although I had never expected to get anything so its all good! Was glad that his scamming ways didn't go unpunished, by far the best outcome was him ending up in court and fully admitting everything (with the help of a good few AmiBay users submitting evidence), result :)

Thats great news guys

@ all please remember amibay is a family oriented forum please keep it clean

Real name and address details won't help with that mate.
If he re-appears here, it won't be under a real name, and the same will apply to other bays.
Imho, there is absolutely zero reason to share real personal details...

I trust the Amibay staff will prevent him from resurfacing here, and as for the other bays: well that's always risky anyway :)

@John: sorry for that.

If he does, he will get found out, even if he has cleaned his act. Doomy has been banned here I think atleast twice IIRC? Albeit, more infamous than this Garry.

No sign of my cheque but alas, hopefully he has atleast learnt his lesson.

Good work Merlock!

It's always good news to hear a scammer getting what they deserve. ;)

i love it when a plan comes to gether...

Lol I just realised that it was only for a couple of quid...

That's 14 more 6 mile round trips to the post office to pick them up and money in the parking meter each time since they're sent recorded delivery. :picard

It's another warning sent out to the scammers that we will seek justice for members ripped off by them. I know that in financial terms it's not much, but it's the principle behind it that matters most. It's fair and legal to name and shame him, since he's been found guilty of it and if he didn't want to risk dafamation of his character, then he shoudn't have done it in the first place.

AmiBay is not a soft touch and we will always go after scammers. There is a particular case on our books that is working across several international borders that we would like to get resolved and if we manage to pull that one off, there really will be no hiding place, nor any place where we can't seek legal redress for our members.

It is a shame that a few bad apples are getting this sort of covarage i must admit.
But atleast it shows that unlike some other trading sites the community cares and works hard to rectify the issue rather than just trying to blame the people who were caught out like in many other places.

I reall never had any issues here. had a close call once but thought it was a bit fishy so used the Invoice payment option which had me covered. apart from that i do use gift payments for the majority of transactions and never really had an issue with any of thse "because i trusted the people i was trading with"

so what i guess i am actually saying is.
if your a new member or just browsing and read this and have worries about scammers here. There really arent many if any here, they get caught and delt with swiftly. leaving behind the good people that make this community one of the best there is.

Its good to see justice being done, fortunately I have never had a problem here at Amibay and only two dubious ones on fleabay one of which got sorted and one of them the seller said he sent the items but that was a long time ago.

Congratulations on the result and cheers to all those involved in getting this sorted

thats good news shame the idiot who ripped me a few years ago got away with it, although he did reappear on WOS with more or less the same name
until i pointed it out to them that he is not to be trusted, with a little help from a certain person from here and who was over at WOS as well
