Cool car Fitzsteve, I love the styling of the RX8 but put of by the high running costs.
Would make a good weekend toy.

I have 4 cars, 2 runners, Rover 25 and BMW 218d and 2 none running TR7s.

John

Cheers John, I'm using the RX8 daily for Work (A abd B roads) except for short trips to the station, I do that in the family wagon (Citreon C4 VTR+)

Running costs, well I got 200m from the the first tank (well just below 1/4 left) and that's a 61l tank. Average will be about 250m a tank (19mpg?), insurance was £380 (would have been 274 but missus had the no claims in her name) and This is the lower tax bracket which is £295 vs £515 so overall not too bad considering its the fastest R1 (231bhp)

The cost of ownership is less that I would have thought, nice choice Steve. I really like the color also. I drove a RX7 turbo in the late 90's and I was really impressed. Loved how it handled and got loose on boost.

You would laugh if I told you the operating as far as MPG on the STS-V. If I get into the very early 20's I'm very happy. Seems as though a 4.4 liter Northstar V8 with a supercharger on it passes everything except a gas station apparently...

Cheers matt3k, I was originally looking at an S2000 or MX5 but never had anything as quick as this and when I done the math, especially how cheap they are to buy I went for it. I love the colour too. Its low miles and engine's been compression tested with excellent results. 33,000 miles (10 year old car)

I looked at some other coupes too and even had my eye on a Jag XF lol.

My Sister had an RX8, she loved it, easy for the dogs to get in with the split door setup, in the end it had to go as she's a RGN and visiting patients on short town journeys was killing it at 15mpg (My jeep was better than that), I had to remove and clean the plugs a few times (refused to start) as the short trips and low revs (her not realising it needed a blast now and then on a car that doesn't redline until 9k rpm) where causing the plugs to carbon up.

My retro hobby is not limited to just computers..

I can't remember the last car I posted on here as I literally buy a different cheap runner each year :D. My current run-around is an orange Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi which I've had for almost a year and it's been surprisingly reliable for an old (and usually hated) model. Only cost me a grand total of £70 to get it through the MOT last week too :).

I have an old (2002) 3.0 X-Type Jaguar - with a 2008 engine in it. It's reasonably cheap to run, and good enough to dispatch would-be boy racers :)

Better late then never. Been running this for the past year and 3 months.

First registered in November 1996 (very early version of this car). And best of all, only 12,000 miles when I bought it September 2015. Won't find much finer examples of this car in the UK. :)

most people just fit the wrong plugs in rx8s, they tend to fit a set of 4 instead of 2 leading and 2 trailing plugs, then wonder why their cars don't start on the button :)

I see great choices here, be it for the fun factor or the rational factor. Interesting to see some people keeping their cars until the literally die out (like I do), while others just keep changing every couple of years (I have a couple of friends who do this too). I think I get too attached to my sets of wheels to let them go until they really must.

With my new car I actually tried to nail both fun and rational, since the running costs of this Clio GT are pretty good if you keep your hand away from the RS button, and the car is pretty fun if you don't.

My dream car today is a Tesla Model S. I obviously can't afford it, and can't even come up with a way to ever be able to. I do have a couple of projects that could eventually get there, but I have no time left from my day job to really dig into them. Oh well.

Now that my wife's working I needed a winter car while my Saab Sonett is stored away. I bought a 2002 Peugeot 206 1.4 XR. It has 217k km on it. It's got a few dents and scratches but the body is solid and it's technically sound. The sear upholsteries could use a good wash.

The family car, the -07 Saab 9-5 Wagon was also traded into a -11 Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan TTiD.

Me and my partner have a volvo s60 2003 silver in color lovely vehicle to drive

And a Volkswagen polo coupe 1991 which is white in color and needs a paint job. This is one of the rarer polos because of the coupe back and we'd love to clean it up and take it to classic car shows.

I bought this a few weeks ago.

I've just got to get used to changing gears after driving an automatic for 7 years

My ride: Commodore VE SSV - yes the name isn't a coincidence why I was a fan of that series ;)
6.0 litre V8 to get my gear to user meets. I did score a haul that filled the boot, back seat and passenger seat!
