Amiga 1000 disk drive replacement

Does anyone know what kind of disk drive I could replace it with? Do 500 drives fit?

500 drives can fit, but you'll have to do some soldering to get the LED to work. There's a blog post somewhere that explains how, but I can't find it at the moment.

The Amiga 1000 drive is larger (fatter) than most A500 drives , the only one i know of that fits properly is the original A1000 external drive and this is the one i used to fix my A1000.

Is it the A1001 or something like that.
