Closed Amiga 1000 RAM Expansion

I'm looking for any sort of Amiga 1000 chip RAM expansion - front, side, or internal. I only need a 256k expansion. All I can find anywhere online are A500 trapdoor expansions. =(

The evilbay has a couple of those right now as BIN, but the price is forbidding if you consider it's only 256K. Keep watching, as they often show up there..

Question - if I were to get a Kickstart ROM, would the 256k RAM the Kickstart normally uses automatically be freed for use? Are there compatibility issues in doing this? If this is a possibility instead of a RAM expansion, I might consider it.
