Hello,

Can someone help me identify if my Amiga 1200 needs recapping or not. Just want to check these are the original capacitors first before getting it done.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers.

You should get that recapped ASAP. Although the caps look in reasonable condition, they could fail at the most inopportune time due to their age.

Panasonic polymer caps are recommended. They are of very high quality and should last a lifetime.

Do not accept any tantalum caps as replacements if offered as they are liable to explode.

Thank you, that's what I thought. I will get it booked in. Do you have a link to the best place to buy the Panasonic polymer caps pack? Thanks again :)

www.retropassion.co.uk does all my recapping work. See what options he offers that suit your budget.

Also, get the timing fix done as it cures a lot of problems that can arise with various accelerator cards.

Ok great stuff. Out of interest do you just send the motherboards to them? What is the typical turn-around time? Lastly what do you use for packaging as I wouldnt want to kill the 1200 en route? Thank you for your support.

Speak to Steve at retropassion and see what his current workload is as it does vary and affects turnaround times. You only need to send the mainboard itself and make sure it is securely wrapped.

I removed all the shielding and then wrapped the board in newspaper ( it's anti-static! ), then bubble wrap and finally boxed before sending.
