It's a bit dangerous and possible not stable to connect a external drive on the unbuffered internal IDE!

Well I think the problem is not that is connected a cd rom as well on the internal unbuffered ide but that it is power connected to the same psu.
I hope this is ok with the psu in hand.
I used to have a hd and a cdrom attached on the unbuffered internal ide but with separate power connectors for years in the past.

You can damage the internal IDE if you handle with external devices on it (ESD), especially if you use a external PSU.
I can't see a problem in using the internal power... ;)

You can use it, its not a problem, but amateurs (potential buyers) shouldn't do it so!
Give the buyer the tip to use a buffered interface... :)

Hi Just one more question. Did you still connect the adapter power wires from the adapter, also did you use the power connecter on the CF IDE 40 pin Adapter too...

Mike..

CF is supplied with the IDE connector via adapter 44 PIN 44-40.

so You plugged in the 44 pin to 40 pin adapter into the IDE on the board. Then you plugged the 40 pin cable and it goes first to the CF adapter and then to the CD drive, is that correct. Oh and you used the power cable on the adapter 44 PIN 44-40 too....

Mike..
