Hi,

I want to upgrade my Amiga 2000 with a 3.1 kickstart but I get a black screen :(
How can I use a 3.1 kick instead of my original 1.3?

This is a revision 6.2 motherboard

Thanks guys

Might be something to do with the ROM size? Maybe requires some sort of jumper wire?

what kickstart are you using?,because it should work.(for what machine)

have you got any pictures of the area with the rom installed.

Should be OK, I've got 3.1 working happily in my A2000...

*edit* Where did you get the KS3.1 chip? Has it worked in a 500/2000 previously?

Putting a new 3.1 ROM into a machine that hasn't had one in before needs patience. You need to leave them in and wait until all of the SCSI device timeouts have occurred before the bootup screen will appear. The ROMs are seeing the hardware for the first time, so it can take a while.

It can take several minutes, so leave it on for 10-15 minutes and see if anything comes up. A black screen is good, as the ROMs have been seen and have passed hardware testing. You need to wait for the timeouts before the various grey screens, the white screen and finally the boot screen to come up.

I've got the exact same setup you do, with a rom switcher (for 1.3/3.1) and mine boots up quckly.

I'm not sure this is a possible problem, but aren't there different rom-sets for different machines? Isn't the 3.1 rom different from the A2000 to the A3000/4000, for example? Do you have a good rom, do you know it works? Do you know what machine it came from?

Simple question, where did you get the ROM? I ask because if it didn't come from Vesalia or Amigakit (which means a "home brew") then the EPROM speed (using a 27C400) may be too slow to work -- they need to be around 125ns or faster. Above 150ns seem never to work. As stated before in the thread, an A500, A600, and A2000 are interchangeable, but no others; these are single chips (68000 based) unlike the dual chips (68020 or faster) in the A1200, A3000, and A4000's.

Also if the chips came from a certain auction site, they may not even be programmed right. Better to get a real ROM from a real company.

It's a custom rom, writed from a real, programmed.

Maybe that's the problem.......

what do you mean its a custom rom? copied from a real rom doesent make it custom.

if its a straight copy of the rom burned back to an eprom unaltered its a copy.

do you at least know what machine the rom was advertised to work with?

and can you send me a pm with the link to the sale?

also you dont need to mod the kickstart to work in a rev 6.2

See what's chip type (unther the label?) it is and post it here. Maybe somebody is able to help you.

If it is a burnt rome depending on type I recall some modding is needed but I can't remember what.

@roy_bates
I can't find the sale page anymore... so strange!!!

@jvdbossc
says 27C400...

Thats the right size eprom but my guess is it has not been programmed correctly...

TC :)

yep thats the eprom you would use for 3.1.

ok,remove anything from the system hardrives extra cards etc,then make sure the floppy drive is connected properly.

and reboot with nothing in the floppy drive.

i would offer to check the eprom for you...but it may be against site rules.(lets hope a mod can confirm this)

Hi all...

I have nothing for now in this A2000.
The floppy is correctly connected because when i use the 1.3 rom i can launch games.

I'll buy a new ROM and see...
