I know im making things difficult for myself, but there has to be a way of doing this!

Im trying to install OS3.9 onto an IDE disk of an A4000 with an IDE CD-ROM. First step is install WB3.1 - done. Then add AmiCDFS - ok - but the CD Drive is not recognised. Do I have to patch the SCSI device before the IDE device is recognised and the 3.9 install can begin?

Cheers

Why AmiCDFS? I think AmigaOS 3.9 comes with CacheCDFS as standard.

Indeed 3.9 does come with a lovely CD Driver, but its on the CD. I need to install a CD Driver onto workbench 3.1 to allow me to access the 3.9 media to install 3.9.

I tried IDEFix, which worked a treat but leaves me with a 3.9 system with nag screens all over it, so I was looking for a different CD Driver which could be used in place prior to the 3.9 upgrade.

Why installing 3.1 first? You don't have repair disk of 3.9? It will be far more easily with that.

Hello friend, I explain as I do in my A4000 . WB 3.1 installed , then install the Idefix to operate the CDROM drive , in the installation process will tell you that will scan the device , then there have to choose ATAPI.device and right you will leave the name of the CDROM drive , select it and give it to USE , I ask you how many discs you put that drive supports 1 and then CD0 or CD1, ask you if you want to mount the unit and you say yes , and everything follows a once it is installed you put the CDROM OS3.9 and you will recognize it and run the installer. I will leave several options and the first thing you have to do is create the emergency disk and in a moment you are creating the floppy disk asks you if you want to integrate the CDROM device by IDEFIX or SCSI , you say that by IDEFIX once finished creating the emergency diskette , reboot your Amiga with the disk in and it came at a time when charging is activated by loading the CDROM drive and boot OS3.9 and once loaded and then reformat or create partitions on the hard disk , and run the installer and install the OS3.9 on the partition you want ;)

I was facing the same issue.

Easiest thing to do is download: http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/AmiCDROM-1.15

This will install the correct driver and allow scsi.device to see your IDE CDROM.

Once it is installed, use the OS 3.9 and create an emergency repair/boot disk.

Reboot computer and install OS3.9.

Once OS3.9 is installed, remove AmiCDROM 1.15 and install the CacheCDFS that comes with OS3.9.

Hope this helps.

Marvellous, thanks! I couldn't get AmiCDFS to recognise the IDE CD-ROM but IDE-Fix did and allowed me to access the CD-ROM and create the 3.9 repair disk. A quick wipe and reinstall and we're up and running.

Thanks for all suggestions :D

Hello every1 im having this problem to I installed 3.1 on my A4000 now like the other people here cd ide drive does not load I got the aminet files off net unzip them on my pc
ran WINEAU on pc copyed them on to my A4000 hd in a folder put it back into A4000 find the files but some of the files say cant load installer tool .im not sure where I have gone wrong

Scrub the last installer package I linked

download the installer from the link below and drag the `installer` and the `installer.info` icons into the System `C` drawer, remove the one thats already in there first(create new drawer and put it in there in case you have probs you can get it back)
