Hi guys,

I really don't know if it has been already discussed here...

Recently I acquired an Amiga 500 and a Philips CM-8833.

Philips monitor, after few hours, stopped working giving no pictures at all. I guess it's something related to the power supply or flyback transformer, who knows...

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what's the best alternative picture quality wise and what are the pros/cons of both solutions:

An LCD with 15 kHz support such as a BenQ BL912 or
A scan converter such as an OSSC 1.6 connected to a Dell 2001FP (not capable to display a 15 kHz input).

What's your suggestions?

P.S. Sorry for my poor english...

Mauro

Do you have a Dell 2001FP?

Earlier models can definitely connect to a 15kHz input (mine does)

I also use an NEC EA241WM for the A600, which works fine (But it's expensive, and it's 16:10)

Yep a 2001FP but later production unit...

That's why I'm trying to figure out what's the best solution.

to be fair id fix the monitor, then again im old school

Fixing in progress, I hope at least :D

Techician told me it's the transformer faulty. Now it's a matter of finding another one...

As I don't want to open another thread, anyone know if the Vampire accelerator will fit with a Mini Megi Chip installed? Do I need pin risers on the CPU socket?

I'd say that an OSSC will surely provide the better picture. I use an OSSC with a 2001FP, although mine is the earlier model which does support Amiga RGB directly, but it looks a lot better through the OSSC.

So,

The OSSC is the best choice as I already supposed, even though a bit pricier than say a BL912...

Earlier this morning, techinician told me that Philips CM-8833 has a faulty flyback and now I'm in the hunt for an HR 7506 for it but it's pretty difficult to find...

As for the Mini Megi Chip, any advices?

M.

Not too many people suggest using a SCART cable (Amiga video port to either a SCART port on a monitor/TV, or using a SCART to HDMI converter box. I have 2, one for my A500, the other for my A2000. The cables are from Ebay (one of them) the other cable from Amigakit, both work great. I am not a purist, if the workbench screen or the game display looks fine to me, I am happy, as the only Amiga compatible monitor I have is a Commodore 1080 and the small screen is not much to look at. I use a 32 inch Sharp LCD TV and it works and looks great. Tom
