Hi there,
I have ordered 2xA508 cards. I need to add an external LED for the cf activity light. I have searched everywhere and even on fbk regarding the correct external LED. Have sent various emails to kipper and even pmd him here to check which LED it can handle e.g. voltages etc...still no reply yet...

In the meantime I tried an external LED from an old ATX PC case. It had 2x blue and one red LEDS. These were working and also checked with multimeter before installing on top of the A508.

Removed the solder blob from SJ1 jumper as found in an old kippers site, soldered in the + and - wires of the external LED and it worked BUT was not stable, and sometimes the cf wouldn't boot and boots to kickstart screen instead...then no light and blank screen...

I repeated with the other blue and red LEDs, still not stable, then LED lights do not function anymore...

After these resoldered back the solder blob onto SJ1, and now the cf activity light stays on during bootup and then black screen...no ks screen either..

Do you think I fried the kipper board by trying these LEDS ?

I waited months for a reply but frustrated I had tried those PC case LEDs....

Please if possible give me schematics of kipper A508 because he is too busy to deal with my card if I sent it back to him would take 3 months minimum...

If in doubt, always add a series resistor to an LED. Unless the pins are made for connecting an LED directly and has the resistor onboard, you could risk burning something if you connected an LED without one. I added an external LED to my Kipper2k board as well, but I can't remember if I needed the resistor or not (I think I did so I could reduce the brightness).

Disconnect the LED and the CF card and see if you get to the KS screen. If not, reconnect the entire board to the CPU socket. Mine tends to come loose, resulting in a black screen.

PS
I have sent an Email to You, but since i got no answer will ask here and order one board please.
Thank You
