Just a thought: wouldn't it be better for everybody if the first post was amended in order to contain a list of the people that have already declared interest? I had to see that i come 32nd after having to check every single page of this thread. And something else: is there any estimation about how and when you plan to fulfill all the pre-orders made here? Not intending to rush things, just a thought as i said before and btw thanks for having worked on such a project that makes our -by far- first love (A500) perfectly usable again.

I am going through the list in groups of five, i send an email out to the people next in the list, after 3 days if no reply, i'll move down the list. If the people who didnt initially respond do send me confirmation i will put them back into priority. I am intending on doing 3 - 5 a day, having said that the last 2 days i have had a lousy cold so haven't done too much.

The list i have is made up of peoples requests not just from this website but others and email requests as well. All requests are handled in order of date/time received.

From the first 10 requests, only 3 have replied and paid so its slowing things down as i do not want to send out requests for cash until the board is actually ready to mail.

I am interested in the 8Mb cf ide board for my A2000. Another question as an aside, how much extra work would be required to add a regular ide port (or two) for internal drives? I know you can get cf adapters to other things, so I don't know if that is important at all.

BTW, great job keeping new hardware going for my favorite computing platform.

It can be done, just a case of routing traces and putting them in an ideal location. Also need to decide where the internal drive would go. A HDD would also take more power to run, that was one of the reasons i did not include it as the Cf cards use minimal power and are small, noiseless and easily imaged/backed up and restored.

Can I boot on CF card using kickstart 1.3?

Just for sake of being sure - I Was (somewhere eearlier in the thread) and I'm still interested in one 8mb + IDE board

Declaring interest

Declaring interest

I'm declaring my interest for 1x8 MB module + IDE Board if it works with A2000.

It seems this card is something a lot of people have been waiting for. :)

Yes, It has surprised me, i was thinking of doing this last year but i thought there wouldn't be that much interest, surprise!

yes using a custom ROM, check out the description of this board on my webpage http://www.kipper2k.com/amigaforsale/ and check out the url for the ide68k link

Hi, You were added to the list. :)

Hi,

It will, i'll add you to the list if you want

Dear kipper2k,
Could you add me to the list for the 8Mb version please ?
And tell me how to pay you of course (+ship to France)
Thank you

The drive could be powered by the system's power supply instead of drawing off the card. It could just have the ide port on the board, and run a cable to wherever you mount the drive (such as the 5 1/4" bay). You could boot from the drive, and run most everything off the cf, since the system sees it as a drive. That is if I'm understanding everything.

Hi All,

more emails sent.

at present the power for the CF card is fed from the same 5v rail as the CPU. If using a HDD it should take its power from another rail (like the floppy 4 pin header)

Received!!!!! :arms:
I can't test it until friday :picard

A2000 test install of my 8mb/IDE board

A2000 test install of my 8mb/IDE board

Hi All...

I finally got a chance to unpack my A2000 and test it out. It's the first time i ever touched one. there were a few boards in there so i had to remove them, one was a 3.5" HDD board and the other was expansion ram, I never give them a chance to see if they worked, i just removed them.

The A2000 itself is a Rev 6.2 board with KS3.1 already in it. I had to check out the A2000 schematics to find oyt the options for connecting the 2 wires from the board and as it happens i got very lucky. (You'll see further down).

Ok, lets show some pictures.

First off, an angled view of the 8mb board in place, wires going to motherboard

Next view is a picture of the board showing the LED cable (Red/Black) that utilizes the A2000's LED. I removed the solder blob from the fastmem board, put in the 2 pin header and away it went :).

Notice that the Int2 and OVR wire on the fastmem board is actually plugged into the header at the top of the board instead of where it normally is. I added a second header just in case. and it is serendipitous (look it up :).

Here is how i connected the 2 wires to the motherboard. Using the schematic i found that both required connections are available on the motherboard risers so no soldering to the motherboard required...

install08.jpg

Here is how i done it, i sacrificed a video hybrid board by cutting off a small piece so i could make use of the pads...

install09.jpg

I then soldered the 2 wires to the cut off part and then pushed it into the CN600 header... Pins 17 and 19 on the header are next to each other on the riser so i could simply push in my cutoff board at pins 17 (OVR) and 19 (Int2). A little bit of hot glue to make it semi permanent and all set.

Notice that the PSU and drive cage is back in place and there is clear space. 2 sets of risers were used for the board to clear the motherboard components

Peekaboo, showing the board below the drive cage

And finally... the boot up :)

install13.jpg

Sysinfo reported...

I just looked up from typing and the cat was sitting on the motherboard while it was turned on... Anyone want a cat, damn thing is in heat too, she won't stop coo'ing
