I am probably staring at the solution and wanted to ask here!

I recently found an old A600 that was buried in my hoard.
The machine was bought years ago, described as not-working and dead.
I vaguely remember the original kickstart was faulty. I pulled that and just put the machine back into storage.
Until recently I decided to have a closer look (all the fuss regarding buying a re-capped board that was not as described).

I fished through my stuff and found a kickstart 3.X 45.064 rom, in a fit of lazyness I fitted that and found the machine works fine!

But I cannot get any workbench to load up, I have an external gotek fitted and also used some original disks.
Everything works! I can load games, all sorts. I can load things up directly, Protracker from a startup-sequence.

I can load everything but workbench, all I get is a blank window with the bar accross the top!

Amiga test kit reports the whole machine is good!

Is this to do with the rom and I am loading the wrong things hence why I am tripping over?

I am going to find an original kickstart for this machine and get it re-capped.

Have you got a CF/HD installed in it?

I've got a spare 2.05 Rom if you want to try that?

Yeah you got a rom trouble you need a A600 rom like davideo says and you defo need to add extra ram as A600 has only 1mb so buy another 1mb that goes in the trap door, even then it will struggle to run whdload games, but there many ram upgrades now for the A600 and quite cheap

Check in the LIBS: folder on the installed Workbench to see if there is a file called 'workbench.library'. If that is not present, then there's your problem.

Because workbench.library is not part of 3.X ROMs, a "Libs/workbench.library" file, as included in the Classic Support Workbench 3.1 set by Cloanto, must be present on the boot disk. This requirement is in common with later 3.1 ROMs by Commodore and ESCOM, as used with the Amiga 4000T model.

My plans came to a halt with a board I had to send back, but I want to use: ACA620EC, A604n, Indivision ECS.

As per usual I do not have any spare 2.05 kickstarts.

I will check that now! I suspect thats why, I can sort that out with winuae and get the missing library onto a disk.

Also depends on which workbench version you have the disks for. If using ROM 3x then Workbench 2.0 may not work.
