Amiga ADF Archive Closure

Hi all,

Just a quick heads up to let people know that I'm letting my server space on Streamline go in the next few days and this will mean impending closure of the Amiga ADF archive on OldskoolUK and also the demise of the HaXXoRz, MoDz 'n' SoDz forum.

Most guys in here will not have a clue what I'm talking about but the OldskoolUK forum was an old forum that was run by myself and other oldskool Amiga freaks. It started out as general chat about everything Amiga based and evolved into a nice community with loads of topics and even our very own 'scene' based productions.

OldskoolUK (oSuK) also ended up being the recruitment/launch platform for Amibay and it was the place that myself, Merlin, Kin Hell, Zetro, Harrison etc. all met in the first place and decided to get an Amiga sales site up and running, after the closure of Amibench.

Anyway, the Amiga ADF Archive was basically a LARGE collection of Amiga scene based productions (demos, intros, diskmags), PD games, Doc disks, Utils, Magic Mushroom collections and such like, that was painstakingly converted into ADF format for use in Amiga emulators and also for guys still running classic Amigas to uncompress and run in original format.

The database of files will only be online for the next 24-48 hours as I've given the go ahead to close the account, so if you want have a look and download anything, you better get in quick. ;)

I'm unaware if Harrison still hotlinks to these collections via ClassicAmiga or if he actually leeched the files and hosted them on his own server?

The Oldskool forum itself will still remain open but isn't actively used or monitored these days. :(

Thanks for that, really cool archive, shame but I guess time moves on.

I have download my favourite demos from when I was a young!:thumbsup:

I'm sure I have the whole archive backed up on one of my HD's, so maybe I could host the collection on this server to keep it alive. I'll have a word with the gaffers in here and see what happens. ;)
 
Hi Dazza. It is sad to see it finally closing down.

I do have a full backup of the archive, but it isn't currently mirrored. I will make it available via classicamiga as soon as I get time, so it can remain available to everyone.
 
Quite update on this. I am going to be launching an FTP from the Classicamiga server in the next few days to provide this full OldSkoolUK archive so it remains available into the future.

I'm also working on a huge rare Amiga disk archive project with some of the other CA members and will merge the OldSkoolUK archive into that once it launches later this year. With full credits from the original contributors for the OldSkoolUK archive mirrored over.
 
That's great news, Dave! I knew you'd have the full colly backed up somewhere. :D

Just checking my emails (as of 5 mins ago) and I have a support ticket from Streamline, saying my server space is now offline. Even though, I haven't touched it for a very long time, it was still like saying goodbye to an old friend - but thanks to you, the legacy will live on.

Is there any way you could backup the OldSkoolUK web site (less the Amiga archives) somewhere, so that maybe ClassicAmiga or AmiBay might run an archive mirror of the site?

It would be such a shame if the site finally went offline and it maybe should be preserved.

Just my 2p's worth.
 
@Merlin. Do you mean the OldSkoolUK forum? If so Daz would have to put in a request to Invisionfree for a backup of the site. I don't know if they have changed their policies, but years ago (2006) they were charging quite a lot for providing the backups.
 
Heck Daz. I was franticly considering a serious trickle-fest from you links until I read a few posts in & saw Harisson was already there. :)

But the Hosting don't own the Material on OldskoolUK. - Rip it quick. ;)

That is very true, but it's pretty hard to rip a forum... although there must be a way... I will see what I can do. ;)

Have you got a website ripping utility like Teleport Pro, Black Widow or Surfoffline? There are utils out there that can do this quite easily, but the backroom data won't be carried over as fara s I am aware.

TBH I'd settle for the posts being preserved via a website rip.

As Dave has already mentioned, Invision did used to charge silly amounts for a site backup and afaik this is still the case.

I've never had much luck with Teleport Pro but if anyone can manage to bleed the site, by all means do so. There is a hell of a lot of material on the forum and it would be a shame to let is fester - just look at the size of the post count under the Amibay topic. :wooha:

The main bulk of the forum will always be there and I'm also keeping hold of the URL, so we aren't against the clock for a site rip. Long live oSuK!


@Kin: Don't panic mate.. H has mopped the lot up and I'm looking forward to this new files dbase over on CA. :thumbsup:
