Hi folks - the clue is in the title ;)

I'm trying to obtain a list of Amiga games that have native hard drive installers. Does anyone have such a thing or know of any off hand that do?

Wings for instance will install natively to the hard drive and I think Defender of the crown maybe does also.

Cheers all

J

I know of the following which have their own installers:

  • Beneath A Steel Sky
  • FIFA International Soccer
  • Ultimate Soccer Manager
  • Virocop (AGA version only)
  • Super Street Fighter II (AGA version only)
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Theme Park (both OCS/ECS and AGA versions)
  • Microprose Formula 1 Grand Prix
but I'm sure there's more.

I think Hall of Light has a selectable search option for Native Hard drive installation, you might check that out. There are countless many titles that could be installed natively to the hard drive on an Amiga.

-Edit- I did a search on HOL and found that there are 717 games listed as being HD installable. I hope this helps.

Syndicate is HD-installable but will have serious bugs if installed in an AGA machine.

Self-experience. Use WHDLoad in bad behaved games, even the ones which are "HD-ready".

BTW: HOL gives a list of 717 games! Have fun.:woot:

I've included a link to HOL with the search results for HD Install: Yes, in my post above.

Completely forgot about Syndicate.
However, I've noticed that the HD installer on Theme Park and Syndicate are very buggy and will not let you install to a folder off the root of the hard drive (well, never works when I try it) so you have to install to something like DH0: or DH1: (but DH1:GAMES/ or DH1:GAMES will not work)

Monkey Island 1&2
Gunbee F99
Skidmarks 2
PGA Tour Golf

Well these are some I have installed that are not mentioned :)

Steve.

It's quite likely that just about any game that's on an "AmigaDOS friendly" disk could probably be made to run from HD with a bit of persuasion.

If I remember correctly the Workbench manuals always have instructions for setting up assigns to install software to the hard drive. A lot of games you just copied the data folder over to the hard drive and away you go. So I'm pretty sure if you can read the disk properly, you can probably get it set up to run off of the Hard Drive.

Best thing to do regarding the games that need an assign is creating one script inside the game's drawer and run it prior to run the game.

That's what I do for OS-friendly games, like Roadkill AGA and Tanks! .

Sim Earth
A-Train
(Possibly Sim City / Populous too)

Frontier: Elite II is hard-disk installable by just copying the game icon to your hard disk. I don't think it depends on anything else being present.

Dark Seed! I forgot about that game! Now there's a game that needed a hard drive! How many disks was that again - 7 or so!

Cheers guys

J

Banshee (though I could nenver get it to work off the HD)
Simon the Sorcerer (I think)
Sim City 2000
