this is a mod, original GI floppy drive does not have it.

Mine (that you linked to) is a mod, but there was also an original GI floppy drive with the display. Both existed. If you look at the PCB picture I posted, you can see that the circuit was made to have all the display parts and the window in the case was also already there, just the components weren't installed. I just happened to have bought one without the display and added the bits that were needed myself.

@ramparts: If you find one without the display installed, I can add the display for you too.
