It is possible to remove the CPU - it's socketed - therefore you can upgrade for higher clock maybe, you won't upgrade to 386 since it's totally different CPU.

Ah!! mmmmhh 286 is not a really greath cpu... it's bossible to add a isa vga and isa soundblaster on an Amiga 4000 whit your doughterboard?

Of course it is. You can also use these as peripherials for Amiga system, but that needs drivers and config -- I have no experience in that matter

Hi,

A bit of info for you...
Yes you could possibly upgrade the CPU using either a kingston 286 to 386 upgrade (GAM model) or an Improve Technologies 286 to 486 upgrade (which I have done because I could not find a 486 bridgeboard that was not silly money!).
In the case of the kingston module especially, you will need to apply spacers between the 2 boards of the A2286 to enable enough room for the upgrade to fit....but it will work!
With both upgrades, you will be able to use the 80287 co-pro socket, but it is advisable that you use either IIT or Cyrix 287 chips as these hold the correct 387 core for 386 or 486 use...the Intel 287s are not always quite so compatible, and it may possibly be the Intel FPU divider (1/3) that makes the difference, as the upgrade chips run internally that much quicker.

Good luck!

KM

Yes, upgrade is possible, but a fast 486SLC2 with 1 MB is not really useful!

And it is not a complete 486 upgrade as the used CPUs are Cyrix or TI 486slc2 ones, meaning fast 386sx CPUs with some 486 commands...

I have a board with a 286 to 486 upgrade as mentioned by Kitman, using extenders and the one spacer just above the crystal it fits perfectly (can post pics if anyone's interested). Having only 1mb is an unfortunate limitation, the manual mentions you can use memory expansion boards, although I've never given this a go.

You could possibly connect a RAM extension to unused XT slot, it's still 8-bit though -- considering 16bit AT slot engaged with VGA or ETH

You can "complete" the 8 bit ISA slots easily to 16 bit by soldering the missing Part of the slot!

With such an upgrade CPU and memory in the ISA slot, it is like a Amiga Accelerator using only chipmem...

why only one mb? 286to386 upgrade only the cpu and not the ram amount??? 4mb will be perfect

It is only a CPU upgrade, the RAM is still the one mb on the A2286...

The best way out seems to be completing additional ISA port and expanding RAM that way.

Hi,

Sorry, increasingly off topic, but just to illustrate for potential buyers what you can do...

Yes, I have a 16 bit intel Memory board with 8 MB RAM on board, inserted into one of the 16 bit slots.
I converted/upgraded both of my 8 bit slots into 16 bit by simply adding the extra slot risers to he holes in the motherboard.

So now I have a A2286/486Slc with 8MB 16 bit RAM in an adjacent slot and a 16 bit VGA Card in another, then I have an IDE/multifunction card in the last 16 Bit slot, with an EIDE drive dedicated to the Bridgeboard.
I even have an epson combined 5.25" and 3.5" drive in the Amiga 5.25" floppy drive bay for completeness.
All works well on my Amiga with 50Mhz VXL-30/32bit RAM, 2MB chip Ram expansion and the AMAX Mac Emulator in another Zorro slot!
Good PSU needed for all this!

Regards

KM

bump maybe
card is also listed on Allegro (polish ebay equivalent) as no-reserve auction, so offers will be entertained here as well
