I take it the Amiga logo and animation can be changed , has anyone had a go at this?

i used to have some os3.9 roms with different wording on the boot screen.

Also can the 1200 used 1mb roms for custom files?

Would also be I interested in this. Finance has put an end to my hardware projects so am turning my attention to custom kickstarts....

from Piru

You need to look into 'strap' module. It does all the animation and waiting for the floppy / PCMCIA bootable media.

The animation is a "script" of different kind of operations to perform. In order to replace it you need to write your own script or modify the existing one. I actually reimplemented a replacement strap module at some point. I could try locating it (it's possible I longer have the src however).

There are people that could do it but they would disassemble the whole exec.library, make the changes and assemble it again.
exec has nothing to do with the insert floppy animation.

yes the logo and animation can be changed,i have seen this.
not sure where but it has been done.
i suppose it has a posing factor as you never hardly see the boot screen, cool never the less.

yes the 1200 can use 1mb roms,i did mess about with a duel boot system once 3.1 and custom 3.9 on two 27c800's using the upper and lower half's for 1mb each.

thats interesting Roy - thats been on my to do list for probably 3 years now..

I would be interested in a rom set with the new scsi.device and updates save using the loadmodule at startup.

in the next few weeks i will be looking in to this and getting advice on what to add , remove etc for updated 3.1 & 3.9 roms -

sadly today i have to paint and drink beer shortly

1mb roms is they way to go i think due to the space needed for updates but to keep "dirty" programs happy would I need a kickstart switch for standard 3.1 / burnt-updated rom ??
I spoke to someone about my A500+ and this is what they said,

There's a problem when doing a custom rom, there isn't enough space in ROM file for updated SCSI.DEVICE. Original scsi.device is cca 10 kB, patched ones are 14+ kB, in original A500/600 kickstart 3.1 there's only 492 free space. Only way to make it fit is to leave some other library out, like workbench.library, but without workbench.library WorkBench won't work. In this case workbench.library needs to be placed in LIBS folder on system partition.

No problem with HDD installation, but downside is that if you're going to use WorkBench floppy you'll also have to put workbench.library in it's LIBS folder.

is this only for A500+/A600 rom ? is the same amount of free space also in 1200 3.1 roms ?

I look forward to your progress on this as all i got from Amigakit is

Will you be offering a custom Kickstart with updated scsi.device etc ?

Hi,

At the moment no. However we are looking into it.

Thanks.

the 3.1 rom on the 500+/600 is a 27c400 so its 512kb.

the 1200 uses two of these so no problem with space on the rom.

Have just started dabbling with remus. As I am using aos3.9, removing the workbench library from the Rom saves quite a bit of space.
Using Kickcontrol to test is quite handy as well.
