Just 'upgraded' from version 3.1 to 4.4.

Make a copy of my hardfile and plonked it in the new 4.4 directory so I could have a play. However, it would seem that 4.4 has shed load of graphics options and after eventally getting it to the DOS prompt if I try to load Windows (3.00) I get kicked out with a Workbench Shell window saying "Fatal error opening or using: screen"

Do I have to match Workbench's current resolution in PC Tasks Advanced Video Options?

Can't really find any decent documentation for 4.4....what's with the Graphics Adaptor options if then you have to go into Advanced Video Options as well???

Wondering also if the CONFIG.SYS file is loading display drivers also and messing things up??

Strange how all this worked perfectly on version 3.1

Any assistance appreciated

Chris

You have to choose for each PC resolution the closest amiga resolution available in your setup. Takes about 10 minutes. Don't forget to save the configuration.

About the hardfile, i don't think you can use without problem your hardfile from PCTask 3, which emulate a 286 CPU, with version 4 which emulate a 486 CPU. Something won't be good for EMS and XMS memory and possibly more functions as well.
It's better to do a clean install of MSDOS.

Awesome thank you Xanxi...the screen modes made sense and it's now booting into Windows! 'Old' Hardfile appears to be working fine but may do a fresh install for this 'lastest; version of PC-Task

Oh, and make sure you use the largest ram emulation buffer for emulation (I think its 64mb) as this speeds up the emulation quite a bit. I had Win95A running on an 060 A2000 in the late 90s and it was actually usable when using the largest emulation buffer. :)

Already at maximum

It's an 030@50MHz with 128Mb Fast RAM at the moment...maybe time to start thinking about a juicier 060 though...
