I dug out my second hand US PS3 20GB yesterday to watch some Region A blu rays, it is a November 2006 build with the Emotion Engine so like a 60GB is at risk of the YLOD. However I cleaned it a while ago and still letting me watch my import films.

My original 360 is long dead with RROD back in 2008 - lasted months, repaired and sold since.

Who is still running these early at risk YLOD (BC models in particular) and RROD models?

I have a launch model, US-NTSC 60GB PS3 with the EE/GS combo. I've removed the heat sink and heat spreader from both RSX and Cell to apply some quality thermal compound and it has been going strong every day. Playing Battlefield 3 mostly. My launch 360 died within 8 weeks, and I never got a new one.

i still have my original ps3 the one that can play ps2 games.

the only two things ive ever done to it is add a much bigger drive to it and hack it a bit to to play copys.

I still have my xbox 360, works as well today as it did when i bought it new in 2007. Total number of repairs equal to zero.

I heard that using ps3 to play blu rays was eventually a sure fire way of killing the ps3.

In any case these days i prefer my xbox with coinops5 :)

Running a launch model 60Gb PS3. It has had the YLOD issue about 5 times
and was lasting about 2-3 months between failures. Last time it went I changed the paste I was using and gave it an extra long re-flow and it has
been good for about 12 months now.

As for my Xbox 360, I changed it for a Star Wars slim version about 18 months ago and that has been fine so far :shhh:

Original launch day PS3 went bust (YLOD) just last week, but has been running strong until then. Got my first 360 3 years ago and that already has drive problems

I have an early (No HDMI, white DVD bezel) XBOX 360 that a friend of mine raked out of a skip. Works fine

My Xbox360 Xenon is running flawless... Only DVD tray sometimes stuck... not often. The mods done are:
1) Whisper Fans replacing original ones with 12v mod.
2) Removed X-Clamp
3) Artic Silver 5
4) Swaped original heatsink for a Elite Xbox heatsink
5) JTAG mooded

CPU temps arround 67ºC
GPU temps arround 45ºC
mems arround 38ºC
Internal case arround 34ºC

No longer have my PS3 (40GB Phat) but someone in my family does and its still going.

My 60gb ps3 lasted 3 years, then i had to reflow it, which lasted 4 weeks. Then i got a refurbished one which looked like new, which i traded for an a4000 :D

And that one has been running for 20+ years

With all the stuff you read you assume no original 360s or PS3s are left - good to see reports of happy users!

Judging by comments more 360s lost their lives.

its a bit of a lottery as to when they break down.

they can be fixed though, although a reball isent the cheapest option its defffinitly the more reliable.

Our 360 is still running, but saying that we don't really use it anymore.

Not even as a DVD player since we were bitten by the Blur-ay (<< Spelling correction) bug this Christmas just passed.

...just passed 6 months ago

...Ah c'mon. Well, it still felt like Christmas in April with all the mischievous snow.

...I wonder (enough to mention, but not enough to google) what a Blur-ay is

I've got a launch day PS3 60Gb which I acquired from my brother which is still going strong. It's had little use over the years, just the odd few hours a week here and there when he owned it so I hope it'll last a fair bit longer yet.

I keep meaning to take it apart, give it a good dusting out and maybe reapply the thermal compound whilst I'm at it, but I rarely use it myself.

Mine's a CECHLxx I think, 80GB fat model.
Originally bought late 2008, saw little use AFAIK. Then I bought it, sees fairly little use now at my home - mostly run as bluray player and media server. "Feels" super solid, but you never know.

My friend who has a same era 80GB YLODed a couple years ago, though he was pounding GTA IV and Gran Turismo like a demon.
He tried reflowing it, lasted another 9months.

What makes these units break down in the first place?
