Seen a few WTS threads where people are saying that you can just swap the 060 for an 040 (vice versa). But, this is not the case, right¿

040 needs 5v, 060 3v.

Even worse would be just swapping the 040 for an 060 and having the 060 be subjected to 5v.

Let me know if this is wrong!

And, for my own info: does the apollo rom chip that is required for the 060 also work with the 040 or is the rom chip some how Cpu specific?

Regs,

You are correct, 060 needs the voltage regulator module installed. In 040 versions the connections are simply bridged.

[h=2]Use the 68060 CPU in the 68040 socket[/h] Published 26.03.2021 - 09:53 by osz
Stefan Reinauer from Mountain View in California (USA) has built an adapter that allows a 68060 CPU to be operated in a socket for a 68040 CPU, the only requirement is that there is enough space to accommodate the entire construct. This is an adaptation of an existing project by richx, which is based on a solution presented in 2013 in the a1k.org forum.

The KiCAD file of the circuit boards and assembly instructions are available in Stefan Reinauer's GitHub repository: https://github.com/reinauer/68040-to-68060
More information and images can be found in Stefan Reinauer's blog, which incidentally also deals with other Amiga topics: https://amiga.technology/2021/01/18/680 ... formation/
