I finally rummaged through the in-laws' storage barn to find the kids' old Apple IIe. He claims to have picked it up on his mail route from the side of the road and gave it to the kids to play with.

The computer is incredibly basic with only One floppy drive, an 80 column card and original tilting g/b monitor. The only software I have right now is a DOS 3.3 Sample Program disk which is enough for today, but I will need more soon.

My question is about the mainboard and ROMs.
the CPU reads "R6502"
the CD ROM reads "342-0135"
the EF ROM reads "342-0134-B"
and the video ROM reads "342-0133-A"

But the board reads "65C02", "342-0304", "342-0303" and "342-0265" (respectably). The ROM versions listed in the silkscreen are apparently the versions of the enhanced ROMs where as the actual ROMs I own are not.

Is it worth performing the upgrade shown here? I have my own EPROM burner and the necessary EPROMs. Am I required to purchase the new "65C02" CPU? Also, are there any other affordable modifications that I should perform?

Thanks a lot. I did not read that the roms could be independently installed. I will be burning them rather than purchasing them but my only problem is the cpu. I will need to buy that one...
