My friend Tim uses a Megadrive joypad exclusively on his A1200 without a problem and has done since we were young. We've had our Amigas since 1992 or 1993, and they still work flawlessly.

There are products being sold, and I'm concerned that these products might be a money making scheme based on exploiting the fear of people that are worried that their beloved Amigas cannot be replaced. I have read many people describe that they have used Sega pads on their Amigas and C64s for years without breaking them.

If you use or have used a megadrive pad with your computer, please share your account of any problems (or lack thereof as the case may be) that you have experienced.

All I can say is that I've used Megadrive pads in both Amiga (500 and 1200) machines and also the C64 (c) without any issue at all. Wasn't even aware that there was a possible problem! My Current A1200 has a Megadrive Pad which my daughter uses (since she doesn't like the Comp Pro 5000!!!! Kids!!!) and it's fine....

Cheers

John

Well, for anecdotal evidence of C64 issues, and the solution to that user's problem, check this link on Lemon64

I've always used MegaDrive pads on my Amigas, A500, A600 and A1200 without issues. Even 3rd party ones! :)

I've tried a couple Megadrive pads on my old C64 and they just plain don't work.
Then I read about why it's a bad idea to use them, and never considered plugging them in again.

They do work on my A1200s but I don't like gamepads for classic comp use, only joysticks.
I'm just wired that way. ;)
