Hi

I am currently looking out for a MC68060 CPU, but after reading this and this, I got kind of paranoid  I got two offers from Chinese suppliers. Here are the pictures I received:

68060_1.jpg 68060_2.jpg

The first picture (CPU 1) is labelled with "Freescale", but has rather an old mask (01G65V -> 1996?); is that possible or is it just a fake?

The second picture (CPU 2) is hard to decipher, but looks kind of genuine to me...

What do you think about the authenticity of these CPUs? I would be very interested in your opinion before I am going to buy one.

Buy one from the guys here, I did that - and you know what you get.

No matter how perfect they look from the outside, you cannot see 'under the hood' so you should only buy from someone you trust.

+1 for what demolition says - impossible to judge from the markings alone. Probably both are fakes - but you have to see and test before you find out what's inside.

Thanks for the numerous feedback. I agree that it is extremely difficult to find a genuine revision 6 CPU. However, that's not my goal at all. I am also content with an earlier revision. But there is still the danger that someone has rewritten an LC/EC edition. Perhaps better to stick with my current 040 :-)

It seems to be like "the one in a million" to find. Wish you good luck and be aware of the counterfeits - they are real, at least.
