Hi all,

Have recently got an old PC IDE hard drive working via a buffered interface with my Amiga 1200. I'd like to run AsimCDFS on it to play CDTV games (I have a CD32 already but some CDTV doesn't work on it). I finally managed to get AsimCDFS to install on a vanilla workbench CF card however when I click simboot with a cd in the drive it sits for a moment or two then crashes. Strangely also it doesn't show the cd drive on the desktop but I know it's looking for cd0 because if I start simboot with no cd it asks for disk in cd0.

Any ideas? It's been a right pain getting it to install too

The manual for version 3 should cover 3.9 as well ... he says, hopefully

Have you checked the CD0: in DEVS / DosDrivers is correct and matches the settings in the AsimCDFS prefs?

Update: A little bit of net-fu reveals this snippet of information ...

CD0: is defined from the AsimCDFS Prefs and uses the CD0 file from the storage drawer for DOSDrivers. There should be no CD0 file in your conventional DEVS / DosDrivers drawer.

No CD0: in Devs/Dosdrivers, it is in storage/Dosdrivers.

I've updated the mountlist.cd0: to ensure it uses the asim_atapi.device instead of scsi.device

I've fiddled with jumpers on the drive itself, re-installed AsimCDFS twice and still no go. CD0: shows up in AsimCDFS prefs. It's very weird.

Do you get any icons appear on the workbench screen after you insert a CD into the drive?

What Os are you using? Perhaps an upgrade would solve your problem ...

It's a Kickstart 3.1 ROM equipped A1200, not sure of the WB version, I'll check. Definitely 3.x tho. Nope, an icon doesn't appear on the workbench screen.

Found the following snippit of info that might solve your problem ...

AsimCDFS:

  • Fails if you mount more than 1 CD drive (all devices show the same CD content)
  • Seems to be a bug in AsimCDFS, because it happens on real Amigas as well

So, try temporarily removing all other CD mountlists from both Devs/Dosdrivers and storage/Dosdrivers so only the CD0 remains in storage/Dosdrivers and reboot the Amiga

Ah, Ok I'll have a look through it all tonight and see what's what. It was a vanilla WB installation but I'll check it through and cleanup if needs be.

Right, checked and there was only CD0:
Did a complete delete of it and a fresh install and still no go. Any attempt to access a CD results in a crash. Really odd

Faulty copy of AsimCDFS perhaps?

What other CDROM driver packages have you got there to test?

Works fine with IDEfix and AllegroCDFS. But neither of them do CDTV emulation. Not the end of the world admittedly!

Yep, there are WHDLoad versions but I'm specifically looking to get Xenon 2 CDTV up and running and that needs the music which the WHDload version doesn't support. As I said, no big deal. Just an excuse to maybe get a CDTV to add to my collection, I've always hankered after one!!!

I think you may be out of luck with this one. It appears many have tried to run CDTV titles on the A1200 and have had very limited success.

What about trying to run the titles through WinUAE on your PC ..?

Oh it works fine on WinUAE and also on Retropie. But I've always felt that emulators, while good, just don't recreate the proper retro experience. Don't know if you feel the same?

I only use WinUAE on my laptop when travelling, so I understand what you mean about it not feeling the same.
