saw this on atariage - Sdrive max arduino touchscreen.
Now updated to handle protected atari ATX files and Tape files, it's basically a cheap Ardiono clone with a 2.8" LCD touchscreen shield on top. No soldering apart from the sio cable, Bas sent me one which i've chopped in half to make 2 devices.
The guide, 3d model, firmware and windows batch file to program the Arduino are all here:

Add sdrive.atr to the root of a fat32 micro sd card
Power can come from the SIO, or from a 5v usb charger if you want.
And - there is an XL styled 3d printed case. I went to 3dhubs.com. It was a brilliant experience, i cant wait to print something else now. 3dhubs offered a local guy 2miles away, who responded in 10mins and next day printed 2 cases for £12! what a superb service from 3dhubs.. my local guy was fantastic.
B&Q or Ebay will provide paint to give a good match to XL creamy-white "rustoleum painters touch heirloom white satin"
£20-£25 inc the paint, a bit of sanding and 2 coats, wire up the SIO cable, bingo!

It works really nicely, I have to try more files for compatibility but with a 1gb card i think I have everything on one neat little modern device! I've still got an SIO2USB and a flash cart but this rocks!
ps: i need to file the case squarer in a few places and my painting is rough
