Back in the 1990's I ran a small business on an Amiga 1200, than as the business grew I eventually swopped it for a windows PC :(
I have always regretted the day I waved goodbye to my Amiga and now after 17 years I've bought one off ebay:p

It was like meeting an old friend , but much of what I knew then I've since forgotten. Things have certainly moved, Compact Flash cards for hard drives, WINUAE, etc etc. But all this means I could do with a little help.

I've purchased new 3.1 ROM chips, a CF card and an Amiga OS 3.9 CD,0 but I'm struggling to learn how to install it on my Amiga. I thought I'd need a SCSi CD drive but I think I read it's possible to load the OS 3.9 CD and a boot disk onto the CF card via my PC before installing the card in my Amiga.

Can anyone give me an idiots heads up of how to achieve this?

Thanks, good to be back!

Hi,

Unfortunately OS3.9 wont run very well (if at all) on a stock A1200. You will need some fastmem. I personally would look for 4mb min. you can run OS3.1 and even OS3.5 (albeit a bit slow for the same reason as OS3.9).

To set it all up on the PC you will need WinUAE (www.winuae.net), an A1200 kickstart rom image and a Operating System (3.1, 3.9). To obtain a rom image you can either do a google search, use a program named grabkick on the A1200 to grab the original rom, or buy the Amiga Forever package (the latter will also get you a selection of OS's to use)

A few pointers to get you started, don't be afraid to ask for help.

Will 3.9 run OK with just some fastmem? it runs OK on a blizzard 1230 but not sure about stock CPU?

THanks for that, yes I recognise I'll need some fastmem and accelerator board, for starters I'll head on over to Amga Forever to check it out.
