I've just read that Weirdstuff in Sunnyvale has permanently closed last year - too bad, as I'm visiting next week (for WCF West among other things), and I was really looking forward checking it out. Any one of you from the Bay area know alternatives (apart from Craigslist etc.)? I'll be moving between SF and San Jose so anything would be of interest in the area.
(P.s. Anyone attending WCF West come and say hello at the event.. :) )

Can't really be of help i'm afraid as i'd never been but i'd love to. Do you mean VCF ? if so i'm really jealous :p .... have fun mate and take lot's of pic's for us poor unfortunate's lol

Hi tbtorro, according to their tweet https://twitter.com/hunterscott/status/982384891231854592 they sold their stuff to these guys: https://www.outbackequipment.com/index.php/announcements/ who don't have a store but they have an ebay shop - https://www.ebay.com/str/outbackequipmentcompany

Anyway, not much use for your trip but just for info. I missed out on a trip to IT mecca this year but do plan to go at some point in the coming 12 months, if the planets align I will walk in your footsteps sir!

Mike

Edit: found this old post - I wonder how many of them are still going? Sorry I am tired tonight or I would have seen if any are still relevant/trading before posting: https://www.edn.com/electronics-blogs/the-emc-blog/4412972/Review--Bay-Area-surplus-stores

I shall try, although it’s too bad nobody I know personally is attending..

If the stars align I’ll also try to fly over to Vegas for ComVex (https://portcommodore.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=commvex:start ) n the 9th, any forum goons there?

Thanks Mike, I saw all of those posts already, and yes Outback seems more of a professional surplus company not really catering to hobbyists. But I’ll check Excess solutions and the others.

Btw I went to Weirdstuff about 8y ago when I was in SF and they were still going strong. Bought a few (weird) stuff but even at that time they mostly had PC stuff and none of the 8/16bit gear. But it was great even just for the experience.

Anyway after VCF my next week is open so if anyone in the Bay Area wants (well willing) to hook up, meet and chat about retro with a few beers ping me - I’m buying :) - could use a guide here anyway - just tried to shop at Costco and they kicked me out without a membership card :D I don’t know anything about anything here :D
