best live gig you have seen?

hi all

i saw Madness live last night and i have to say, they were brilliant!! one of the best i have ever seen, it is close between Madness, Metallica and the Red Hot Chillis as to who was the best.

this got me thinking about the bands/performers i have seen over the years and so who is the best live act you have ever seen?

I thought ZZ Top was the best thing i've seen for 'Aeons', until i went to the Skynyrds concert last Monday! Boy, they were great. most every local blogs-sites etc. have only good words to say. :)
 
Best for me would be the original Guns N' Roses back in '92. Close second would be Guns N' Roses in 2010. Not as good, but still close.

Bon Jovi were quite good.

Matchbox Twenty is outstanding in terms of being able to sound like they do on the studio cd, not so much in the atmosphere though.

Blink 182 is always the funny show, they have the crowd in fits of laughter rather than singing along. In a good way of course :)

Nine Inch Nails concerts are always fun for an energetic concert.
 
Yeah - Madness would have been brilliant! I would liked to have been at that myself!

For me my favourite gig was Simple Minds in Edinburgh Castle. Was fantastic!

I also have a soft spot for an intimate wee acoustic concert Howard Jones did in a small venue in Glasgow quite a few years ago! Completely different from what I was used to from him and he chatted with the audience and was clearly just enjoying himself which made it a great night.

Don't know if you can call it a gig but the best live performances i have seen were opera's.
I have seen Don Giovanni, Carmen and Aida
All thoroughly enjoyable :)
 
For me it's the Faith No More 2nd Coming tour at Kaisaniemi Park on 2009. I saw also the U2 360 gig in Gothenburg in the same summer and it was of course bigger but still the FNM guys just rocked my world in a whole another level.

Also the Police reunion tour back in 2007 at the Globen in Stockholm was great. For me that was one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. Despite their differences, Sting, Stewart and Andy still rocked. :thumbsup:
 
Would love to see FNM live, one of my fave bands growing up :)
 
I've seen so many concerts by so many different artists that it's hard to label a single one as "best gig I've ever seen". They're just too different to compare.




If I have to make a top 5 of different artists I think I'll go for:

1) Dire Straits, Feyenoord Stadium Rotterdam, 1992 - my first concert ever, I was 15 years old and saw my (still) favourite band in a sold out stadium with over 50.000 people. Still gives me a chill 20 years later...

2) Pearl Jam, Nijmegen 2007 - my favourite band of recent years (though I've been a fan since the Ten album), this was the first PJ concert I've been to. Since then I've seen them 3 more times (even went to Dublin to see them), and I'm adding a 5th and 6th concert to my list tomorrow and wednesday :)

3) K's Choice, Utrecht 2010 - another one of my favourites from the 1990's, also the first time I saw them live. Although their last albums don't rock as hard as their first 2 or 3 they play a pretty rough live set

4) Marike Jager, Nijmegen 2006 - a nowadays pretty well-known Dutch singer/songwriter, but when I saw her for the first time live it was on a stage in the backroom of a small music bar, with about 50-70 people. The small, intimate setting of that gig was a very magical feeling.

5) Dynamo Open Air festival, Eindhoven 1997 - I'm cheating a bit here, but this was my first big metal festival, and I've got so many good memories about the whole festival and all the bands that I've seen there, that I see this as a single (though very long) concert
 
Iron Maiden in 1981 and then in 2011!! :D

The Prodigy in Cork in 2009 Live at the Marquee, what a venue!:thumbsup:

Ultravox 2011 Bournemouth :p

Lots of 80's bands at the IndigO2, some excellent evenings!!!

I can also recommend War Of The Worlds Live, currently doing the rounds!:blink:
 
I've seen Rush 3 times and they were awesome every time. Have tickets to see them again in October.
 
I enjoyed the australian pink floyd.
cypress hill were a big let down.
But i think my fave was ez rollers in glastobury 2000.:thumbsup:

i also been to see david bowie but again like cypress hill past the prime and didnt do any of my fave songs.

My wifes fave "just asked her" was...
Boys like girls with cobra starship, in sacramento "she dosent remember the year"
 
i would like to see Bowie, but he supposedly has stopped touring:(

still, he's bound to have a comeback/farewell tour at some point:lol:

Best live performances to date.

I struggle to select a favourite but it would probably one of these:

Dio - Saw him several times from 1985 to 2006, was always brilliant but on the 2003 tour when he did Stargazer I was one very happy fatbloke.

Judas Priest - was never a fan of Priest I only went because The Scorpions were supporting. Still not a fan of the studio work but live they are an entirely different beast.

Deep Purple - Knebworth 1985 (Was on the front row, up to my knees in mud, but for 2 hours I never noticed the rain at all)

Sex Pistols - Glasgow 2007 - went not knowing what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised.

Or possibly Public Image, Diamond Head, Bernie Torme, MSG, Roger Waters, The Cramps ... I might have to go for a listen to some loud live albums for a while now ...
 
Probabley the prodigy @ Milton keynes bowl back in '09. Weather experience with the lazers was just spine tingling...

They where also epic back in '97 at Manchester apollo.
The Wombats where very good as well, same goes for the Charlatans


Biggest let down was seeing Ian brown at Doncaster Dome... Such bad sound quality for a guy who cant sing that well to start with lol.
 
DID Anybody go watched QUEEN Live Aid 1984:thumbsup:? I wish I was there but I was too young :(
 
I don't actually go to many concerts, but I've accompanied my brother to see Dragonforce (which he is a big fan of) a couple times. They definitely give a great show: energetic as hell, equally technically impressive live as they are in the studio, and clearly having a blast at all times. Good stuff.
