I've installed the unofficial BoingBags and noticed a sharp decrease in chip RAM: whereas I used to have about 1600kB, I now have around 1300.

Is this normal? Shouldn't the new graphics.library save chip RAM? Aren't the Kickstart patches installed into fast RAM?

Can it be made any better?

Disable the new graphics.library from boot and see !

I always used to use:
iconbefast and fblit to throw as much into fast memory as possible.

Though, using up chip ram isn't really a problem, as if it's needed and it's loaded with room to spare, your amiga will run quicker anyway I'd always thought.

I seem to have solved it, by giving the LoadModule line which the BoingBags installer instructed me to add the additional NOMEMFKICK paramters.
The LoadModule readme file says it works by magic and I should only use it if I know what I'm doing, but... well... now I have my 1600kB of memory back.
