Sorry, had to get this off my chest..

Neighbour is having about his 8th bonfire this year.

I don't know why he does it, the council does a green collection every week now. He spends hours watching over it, it would only take 20mins to put it into bags :picard

this does me too, why when the suns out in full glory people have bonfires

Why don't you have a 'rave' day at the same time and put on 'State of the Art' at full blast? :D

That primeval feeling of mastering the elements and dominating nature, muhahahahahaha. The kids love it too  .

Speaking as a full time firefighter, this kinda thing is a pain in the butt.

We get called to these fires for people burning off rubbish, sometimes at ridiculous times of the day, and they clearly have no consideration for others whatsoever.

Then a neighbour calls it in because it is giving off thick black smoke and annoying them just because they dont want to close their windows for an hour or so.

Then it ends up getting to a full on domestic dispute between neighbours over something so silly, when a bit of common sense would have saved the day.

I've lost count of the number of times I've had to get police involvement in this type of incident because of the way it escalates.

Sadly, we no longer have any legal standing in this area like we once did either. That means we have to refer people to their local enviromental health who are the only ones who can take enforcement action, but of course they dont work evenings and weekends, so it rumbles on and on, and we end up with several calls between neighbours at war over something so stupid.

A little consideration for the neighbours, and the effects this can have on emergency services which are already stretched to breaking limit, would go a long way.

I agree with ya on that WonkeyDonkey people have to be responsible
and respectful of there neighbour's I only burn wood I buy and old
pallets I get from work..

:coffee:

General timber isnt so bad at all.

Top tip though : Dont EVER throw old kitchen units / doors that are made of chipboard and covered with laminate. Which is 90% of what is sold these days.

:wooha:

I was woken up at about 1.0AM once by a chap a few houses away who was burning something with very noxious fumes, possibly pvc coated electrical wire to get at the copper. He used to do it during the day or evening but 1.0AM??? ...and the flames were reaching the height of the guttering on his house.

My next door neighbor and his wife are both elderly and have breathing related illnesses. Had to report the fires although it's not something I'd normally do. Getting older definitely gives you more of an up and at 'em attitude. Haven't had another occurence so far.

I'm not against garden fires but as mentioned, if done responsibly.

Re: green collections; Some people like myself (Bristol home owner) don't get this for free. I'd have to pay for a green bin and pay via monthly standing order to the council for a collection service. Totally absurd given that I pay council tax. ...and Gloucester home owners get it as part of the council service!!!

I have no issues with people having fires burning off garden waste/wood, but why are some people thick enough to burn plastics? <sigh>

<unga bunga> me man me make fire<ugg>fire warm fire nice pretty fire
